0 Digg it    Woman arrested for WoW love affair
  Views: 64  |  Category : Default |  Post time : 2008-04-23 02:37:06    Comments: 4  |  Bookmark

An Australian woman is facing child abduction charges in the US after trying to bring her 17-year-old World of Warcraft boyfriend back to Oz.

Tamara Broome, a 31-year-old university student, was arrested on June 26 after she flew from Adelaide to the boy's home in Greenville, North Carolina to pick up her internet beau.

Broome allegedly had an online relationship with the boy for more than a year, which began in the online game World of Warcraft. The two had also exchanged copious amounts of email and even discussed marriage.

The Azerothian love-affair has sent Broome to Pitt County Detention Centre where she will get a July 11 court date. Police have seized her laptop computer and charged Broome with attempting to abduct a child. If convicted she will face more than two years in a US jail. Broome is currently being held on a $2.35m bond.

(WoW equipment could not be seized by authorities, as it is soulbound.)

0 Digg it    Silent Hill comes home in September
  Views: 49  |  Category : Default |  Post time : 2008-04-23 02:36:28    Comments: 0  |  Bookmark

When the original Silent Hill game crept up on gamers in 1999, few could have guessed it would spawn a series still serving up shocks almost 10 years later. Konami's amazingly brief E3 '07 press conference confirmed that it would bedo just that, when the company announced Silent Hill 5 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Konami has now confirmed that the game will be called Silent Hill: Homecoming, and will hit European shores at the end of September this year. News about other territories was not released.

The game introduces a new protagonist, Alex Shepherd, and follows him as he moves from his hometown back to the titular town to face the "darkest horrors" and find his brother. Konami has promised a new combat system to go with the change of platform, but the only details currently available are that it will feature "a wide array of attacks and counters" and "a variety of weapons."

Homecoming will be the venerable survival horror franchise's first outing on next-gen platforms. It will also be the first entry in the series to extend the story since 2004's Silent Hill 4: The Room. Last year's PlayStation Portable title Silent Hill: Origins, which a

0 Digg it    UAE municipality issues crackdown on God of War: Chains of Olympus
  Views: 74  |  Category : Default |  Post time : 2008-04-17 11:56:34    Comments: 1  |  Bookmark
A crackdown against Ready At Dawn's God of War: Chains of Olympus for the Sony PlayStation Portable has recently been launched in Sharjah, a municipality in the United Arab Emirates. This was due to several residents complaining about the game allegedly containing material offensive to religion, values, and social norms, what with Kratos' main enemies being gods of Greek mythology. The game was also cited as having sexual content, which is probably the minigame at the end of the very first boss.

Another reason for the crackdown was that anyone could pretty much purchase the game easily despite it being banned. UAE national Khalid Bin Deemas' statement about God of War: Chains of Olympus:

I knew that it was banned, but many of my friends were able to buy pirated copies from Dh5 to Dh10. I was shocked to see how much it contradicted Islamic values.

With the crackdown ongoing, the permanent fatwa committee has instructed all concerned government departments to forbid the sale of games with similar content as God of War: Chains of Olympus, as well as confiscate any remaining stock of the aforementioned games - and they will continue to do so in future. Updates about this matter as they

0 Digg it    WoW Forums: Where's the Infinite Dragonflight?
  Views: 117  |  Category : game news |  Post time : 2008-04-17 11:54:21    Comments: 0  |  Bookmark
One of the less sought after truths behind countless mysteries in Blizzard's World of Warcraft, that of the Infinite Dragonflight in the Caverns of Time, may actually be unwrapped when Wrath of the Lich King goes live. Or at least, people want such to happen.

Over at the World of Warcraft forums, intrigue is building up as players discuss the Infinite Dragonflight. As a Dragonflight trying to alter the past, little is known about the grim creatures which appear on two instances set in the Caverns of Time.

It's anyone's guess why the Infinite Dragonflight didn't appear in the Battle of Mount Hyjal, though many are hoping its history will be put to light. A new Caverns of Time extension is going to open in Old Stratholme come Wrath of the Lich King, and players are hoping the time benders make an appearance there.

According to WoW Forums resident and Blizzard poster Bornakk, Caverns of Time: Stratholme was inspired by the Warcraft 3 level "The Culling." While there's no telling whether or not this is a hint of the Infinite Dragonflight's presence, it's interesting that the critters are garnering attention. Bornakk did not deny the possibility of it appearing, and we'v

0 Digg it    New DS to be unveiled at E3?
  Views: 49  |  Category : Default |  Post time : 2008-04-13 08:33:02    Comments: 0  |  Bookmark
ource: A story on the Bloomberg Japan financial news service.

What we heard: Three and a half years ago, Nintendo launched its DS handheld in North America. Just over two years ago, Nintendo released a streamlined version of the handheld, the DS Lite. Combined, both models of the handheld have sold over 18 million units in the US alone, according to the latest figures from the NPD Group. According to Enterbrain, the publisher of Famitsu magazine, the handheld has sold a whopping 27 million units in Japan.

The handheld has also spawned yet another order in the cult of Nintendo hardware fetishists. True DS fanatics will often own multiple handhelds, either to color-coordinate their portables with their daily wardrobe or hoard unopened collector's editions so they can later sell them for nearly $300.

Given the DS's widespread and rabid fan base, it's unsurprising that news of a new model would be gobbled up like a rump roast tossed into a tank of piranhas. And that's exactly what happened today when Bloomberg Japan ran a story bearing the headline, "New version of Nintendo DS a possibly at US trade fair - Enterbrain president."

The piece covered a Tokyo press conference
