0 Digg it    LEGO Universe MMO: First Details and Screens
  Views: 69  |  Category : Default |  Post time : Aug 24, 2008    Comments: 0  |  Bookmark
World of Warcraft, watch out: LEGO has its eyes on your MMO prize. The LEGO Group today debuted new artwork and details about LEGO Universe, a massively multiplayer online game.

LEGO Universe will let gamers have a hand in literally building their in-game universe. Although LEGO games (LEGO Star Wars, LEGO Indiana Jones, LEGO Batman) have been popular on consoles, this is the first LEGO MMO.

The game will bring the LEGO play experience online, encouraging creativity and collaboration between fans all over the world. Within LEGO Universe, players will be able to create, build, quest and socialize together. As LEGO avatars, of course.

In LEGO Universe, players will be able to build anything from LEGO bricks, including their own avatar. Buying bricks and building involves "money," of course, but in a very LEGO sense: the game's currency is plastic, with players them use to buy bricks. Players can also find bricks in the persistent world, gain them by defeating enemies and completing challenges, or discover them a la treasure.

Lego Universe will be released for PC in 2009.

We have the first pieces of concept art from the game, as you can see below. You can click any of the

Well, the rumors are true- there will be a Star Trek MMO developed by the guys who brought you City of Heros. Kotaku has the screenshots to prove it.
That job listing was correct. City of Heroes developer Cryptic Studios is working on a Star Trek MMO, and its got the screenshots to prove it. Dubbed Star Trek Online, the game will be based on the Star Trek franchise. Says Cryptic chief creative officer Jack Emmert:

Star Trek was never about a single character, ship or even planet; Star Trek was always about an entire universe. And MMORPGs are uniquely suited to create such a thing and allow players to explore every inch.

July 25, 2008 - After a one-time stint in Santa Monica, the 14th annual Electronic Entertainment Expo returned to the Los Angeles Convention Center this year, and so too did its lineup of great-looking games. In truth, the sheer volume of high-caliber software surprised us given the more underwhelming presentation of the show when compared to previous seasons, but perhaps it was that lack of whizz-bang hoopla that made the companies' impressive game lineups that much sweeter.

Naturally, given our own obsession with videogaming, we've put together a list of the best games that the invite-only show had to offer so that you, the IGN faithful, know exactly what cool games to look for in the coming months and years ahead. As an added bonus, we've even included specialized platform-specific lists for the PC, PlayStation 3, PSP, Wii, DS and Xbox 360 crowd as a supplement our overall awards. That way everyone, no matter what their console preference, knows what cool games struck our fancy most.

0 Digg it    The SCI FI Channel Is Going To Make An MMOG?!
  Views: 63  |  Category : Default |  Post time : Jun 22, 2008    Comments: 1  |  Bookmark

The announcement of the SCI FI Channel MMOG has made a number of us come out and reaffirm our inner geek. A vast number of MMOG aficionados are also SCI FI channel fans, and so this combination seems like a match made in heaven. Luckily, our resident humorist Coyote thought so too and wrote up an article to test your funny bone. Check it out!

An Editorial by Coyote, Ten Ton Hammer's Resident Humorist

For those of us of a more virginal background, the SCI FI Channel has long been our mistress. She's been there through the good, dragged us through the bad, and has shown us worlds that lay somewhere in between.. Yet no matter how rocky our relationship has been in the past, we still turn to her for comfort and the occasional late night alien encounter booty call.

And now we're about to take our relationship to the next level.

The SCI FI Channel has announced a partnership with Trion World Network that promises to bring us what we've all hoped for and feared at the same time: a SCI FI Channel based MMOG. And while the details of this unholy union are still vague, I consider myself well enough versed in the world of Sci-Fi to bring you an educated guess on exactly WHAT this MMOG will be

0 Digg it    Battleforge Interview: Volker Wertich

I’d be lying if I said I was fully prepared for the recent EA Label Showcase in London.

Yes, I knew some of the people who I’d be interviewing and I knew just what to expect. I had all my questions scribbled down for talking to Chet Faliszek about Left4Dead and I had fully prepared myself to be slaughtered repeatedly in Battlefield: Heroes. Still though, there were two things that I hadn’t counted on.

The first was the revolving seating in the presentation room where journalists were introduced to the games on show. I was sat near the edge of the platform, so when it started to spin I almost fell over.

The second thing I wasn’t prepared for was Battleforge, an online card-based RTS from the creator of Settlers which was announced at the show. It came out of nowhere as far as I was concerned and that both shocked and intrigued me.

I took a chance to get familiar with the basics of the game with one of the designers, a charming fellow called Sebastian, but I was quickly grabbed up by the Creative Director and creator of Settlers, Volker Wertich. It turned out that he wanted to tell me about the game personally – something else I hadn’t counted on…

Battleforge Interview: Volker Wertich
