At its recent spring press event, Sega showed off a brief teaser trailer for its upcoming Summer Olympics-themed game, Beijing 2008. The movie was a mixture of classic Olympic footage from years past, with a sprinkle of actual gameplay thrown in for good measure. While we haven't had a chance to play the game, we did manage to snag a few details from producers on hand about what to expect from the game. First of all, the lineup of events in Beijing 2008 looks to be pretty extensive. While you won't have team-based sports events like basketball, baseball, or softball, it seems like practically every solo competition will be in the game, including, but not limited to, track and field (100m, 200m, 400m, 1500m, hurdles, long jump, javelin, discus, shot put, hammer throw, high jump, pole vault, and triple jump), swimming and diving (including events for breaststroke, freestyle, backstroke, and butterfly), and more specialized event types, such as judo, skeet shooting, kayaking, archery, and cycling. There will also be gymnastic events, including floor routines, uneven bars, parallel rings, and so forth (though, curiously, no pommel horse event). Though we didn't get to try the game o

I’d be lying if I said I was fully prepared for the recent EA Label Showcase in London. Yes, I knew some of the people who I’d be interviewing and I knew just what to expect. I had all my questions scribbled down for talking to Chet Faliszek about Left4Dead and I had fully prepared myself to be slaughtered repeatedly in Battlefield: Heroes. Still though, there were two things that I hadn’t counted on. The first was the revolving seating in the presentation room where journalists were introduced to the games on show. I was sat near the edge of the platform, so when it started to spin I almost fell over. The second thing I wasn’t prepared for was Battleforge, an online card-based RTS from the creator of Settlers which was announced at the show. It came out of nowhere as far as I was concerned and that both shocked and intrigued me. I took a chance to get familiar with the basics of the game with one of the designers, a charming fellow called Sebastian, but I was quickly grabbed up by the Creative Director and creator of Settlers, Volker Wertich. It turned out that he wanted to tell me about the game personally – something else I hadn’t counted on… bit-tech:Ok, so Sebastian was just in

President of Electonic Arts Frank Gibeau in a recent presentation with some industry anylysts revealed a number of EA titles coming out in 2009. Among them is a new Burnout, Skate 2 and a new Need for Speed game. He also talked about sequels to Mass Effect saying "it will be a franchise for EA for a very long time" In a presentation to industry analysts today, EA Games president Frank Gibeau revealed that the two series would "see extension" in the publisher's fiscal year 2009, which runs from this April through March of 2009. Gibeau didn't specify whether the extensions would come in the form of proper sequels, side products (such as Burnout Legends and Burnout Dominator), or some other form.
In contrast to Burnout, Skate is a relatively new property. The series debuted last September as part of EA's attempt to break Activision's hold on the skateboarding genre with longtime champ Tony Hawk's Pro Skater.
Another new franchise EA is prepping a sequel for is Mass Effect, which was announced for the PC today. From the very first time now EA-owned developer BioWare showed it off in 2005, the role-playing game franchise was touted as a trilogy. Gibeau's present

Today's One Shots comes to us from Rellia from the Moonglade EU server who wanted to show off just how overpowered Hunters have become in World of Warcraft. Rellia writes, "I just wanted to show you my newest spec - voila, a Shadow Hunter!" Of course we know that there is no such thing -- this effect having been caused by an engineering transporter malfunction that turned her "evil" instead. There again, Shadow spec, evil... kind of the same thing in our book! Do you have a screenshot of something wacky that happened to you in your favorite MMO? How about some screenshots of interesting screen glitches or funny temporary effects? Whatever the case, we want to see your screens! Just send them over to us at oneshots AT massively DOT com. Your screenshots could be next! Source: http://www.massively.com/2008/05/03/one-shots-evil-shadow-hunter/
