Last Chaos Impressions/Review

Category: Last Chaos Game: Last Chaos Posted on Nov 17, 2007 12:50 am

First Impressions: Typical Korean game
Korean-based massively multiplayer online games are incredibly similar when it comes to the creation of your in-game avatar, and Last Chaos is no different. Rather than giving players a plethora of options to choose from concerning character class, race, and appearance, Last Chaos restricts the selection process to the gender, the character class, and a few appearance options. Instead of providing a race option, a character’s race is based entirely upon the class a character chooses: a Titan is a Titan, a Knight is a human, a Sorcerer is an Elf and so on.
Every time you level your character, you are given a certain amount of attribute points to improve your stats. But these improvements really, really affect your character after a certain number of levels – after level 31 (usually). Until then you get a slight satisfaction only.

Move forward….
One of the more interesting characteristic of Last Chaos, and one that honestly would be fun to include in any MMOG, was the appropriately named personal dungeon. At certain levels, your character will be allowed to go on a solo-only dungeon raid filled with all sorts of creepy, crawly critters. One personal dungeon quest happens immediately when you enter the game, throwing you into combat with striking speed, while the other quests aren’t available until you achieve the fifth level of experience or higher. Be warned, even at fifth level the personal dungeon will be incredibly difficult, and I’d recommend being at least level ten before fully exploring its depths.

So, you managed to escape your first dungeon and now you find yourself in a city.
Here comes trouble. The game lacks a tutorial. Sure it gives you some hints and some minor quests that help you find various NPCs, but this hardly counts as one.
On the other hand, Last Chaos introduces a new help system, the Guardians.

Guardians are players experienced in the game that are willing to help new players.
Either by providing tips, or by helping the young souls level. A Guardian is a mentor, a guide, a temporary ally. A Guardian can really sky-rocket your first experience with the game, or confuse you even more. And this guardian system is the second pit-fall of Last Chaos. Instead of being the first thing the games teach you (how to obtain a Guardian), you can find yourself well beyond the first levels before a note pop-ups, informing you of this game option.
On the other hand, this Guardian system is the heart of the great community of Last Chaos.

Now what?
Well, you joined, you played, you leveled some and now you have all kind of questions. Raging from stupid ones (how do I equip a weapon?) to more serious ones (when it is a good time to obtain a pet?), Last Chaos community will help you beyond your expectations. Either in official forums, or in your guild forums, or by just shouting your question online, or using the Guardian system, you will get you answer very soon – almost instantly. And this fact is what makes Last Chaos worthy of your time.

Special Features
You have an idea on how the game works and its community. You have spent some hours online leveling your character. And now, you feel it’s time to explore some advanced features of the game.

-         Pet system
You can have a pet from level 1 – actually level 2 or 3, depending on what level you exit your first introductory dungeon. There is no level restriction on when to obtain a pet. The only problem is how to find one. Last Chaos incorporates two types of pets: a dragon and a horse. And they behave in a very different manner from the pet you are used to from other mmo (like wow or everquest).
A pet will NOT fight with you. You can issue simple commands, like pick an item, but that’s about it on how a pet behaves in the game.
But pets, although not helping in combat situations, can be a very nice addition to the arsenal of all players. Pets will provide some boosts in attack ratings or defense ratings of their owners. Pets will gain exp like their owner, enabling them to grow up and provide even more bonuses.
You are allowed to mount your pet, after it reaches level 31. After mounting it, a new set of skills will appear (more powerful) and pet will loose its previous, un-mounted ones.
Pets are not act like a hired NPC who will follow you. You need to take care of your pets. Feed them and treat their wounds (yes pets don’t fight, but they become targets in combat). If your pet dies you can wait some hours before pet is revived back to life, or pay a hefty sum of gold and instantly resurrect your pet.

-         Personal Dungeons
When you first enter the game, you will find yourself in a small dungeon. A personal dungeon filled with monsters, where you, is the only player in there.
The game has 4 more such dungeons, available to you at various levels. They hard to solo at minimum levels, so be warned. The one thing all these dungeons have in common is the fact that you must kill all monsters inside them before you can complete it. If you die in there you wont loose any exp, but you must restart the dungeon from the beginning to try to complete it’s quest.

-         PvP
Like all new mmo, Last Chaos has a PvP system. Most of its servers are PvP enabled. And beyond simple PvP system, you get the option to participate in Castle Sieges and in Guild vs Guild wars (which require a whole new strategy and team-play than simple PvP).

the downfall of all free mmos is the infinite grindding - just my thought
but in last chaos i found many friends to easy the pain :)

I haven't test knight online to be able to compare them. But if i try to compare lc, 2moons, cabal and a couple more, i think last chaos stands on top of them - mostly of its great community
