Dream of Mirror Online (aka DOMO) impressions
Category: DOMO Game: Posted on Nov 25, 2007 2:43 pm
Today i downloaded and testes the DOMO (dream of mirron online).
Usually i am not a fan of anime-like games... they look all the same to me, with rediculous characteristics in avatars (multicolor hair, strange color eays etc).
But a friend told me this was a fun game, so i thought to give it a 3 hours testing, before rejecting it.
My mistake... and a major one.
Now, as i write this lines, i managed to pull myself away from the game, after about 14 hours since i press the "Create Character" button :)
Storyline?? Who cares.
Music? Auto option is set to off and it mustr remain to off... sucks
Graphics? Cartoonish anime like, childish and with no much details
BUT: it has the most amazing feature i have yet to see in a game. And this fearture is called: Relationships.
Yeap... in the game you can form relations with other players - not just teams and guild
From the time you create your character, till the time you end the tutorial you decide on your zodic sigh and your ethos in the game.
Based on these features, the game constanty suggests players to meet and befriend online.
You have the option to create the following forms of relationships:
- teacher/student
- relatives
-combat pals
-lovers
-and finally: true lovers
While you roam the lands, you will hear your heartbeat and see a thin red line linking you with some other player. This player is best suited to have one relation type (from above list) with you, based on your choises during character creation/tutorial.
As your relation type grows, you get to use more specific skills and attacks during combat.
That feaure really got into me - and with my almighty luck, my friend really matched with me :) - So we teamed and fought together and spend time together and raise our level of relationship. Its a feature i havent seen on any other game so far (not that i am that experienced) and i like it.
Another thing i liked was teh quests.
Infinite quests to do and choose, with a very nice quest system. Most quests are "kill mob/get drop" type, but even these quests helps you in grindding, setting a fixed target number of creatures to kill - so at the end we end up with the same amount of grind, but in many different types of creatures with different drops. And this helps a lot.
Monsters are not very nicely designed (as far as i explored), but they have a variety of names and colors, making your life easier on your hunts.
Almost all NPs will help you with tips, rumors, quests at some point. Major NPCs will give you a series of quests to complete and reward you accordingly.
By the way.... you can have an infinite number of quests in your quest log. Major quests and storyline quest sremain when you log. Secondary quests dissapear when you log - so complete them asap - or keep notes from where you get them.
Crafting system is huge. I havent try to complete anything yet, but you get many options - and is advised to specialize in something (especially if you operate inside a guild).
Keep in mind that is info is based on close beta testing - open beta will be in the end od 2007 (or so i have been told in the game). By that time all characters will be deleted and we will start anew.
More features: you can fly, have a pet, create guild.
PvP, or Guild vs Guild I know not... most players are still low to create guild and we still explore the game, not wasting ourselfes into pvp situations.
Final note: game is based on cooperation and teaming. Most major quests will demand of you to have a team to complete them. So, train your social skills and get yourself a nice team :)
I have uploaded some screenies also in the gallery sections, if you want to check them out
