In-game currency trade for real cash and in-game currency brokerage in Korea will be called to stop completely this week.

On May 9, The Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Korea announced that the Gaming Industry Rejuvenation Act will be implemented in the week starting May 14 (Seoul Time).

The announcement brings an end to the discussions on the issue of prohibiting in-game currency trade for real cash.

The act specifically provides that it is forbidden to obtain in-game currency in an abnormal way or to trade in-game items with real cash.

Anyone who violates the act will receive imprisonment below 5 years or penalty below 50 million won (about $50,000).
