I'm a 24 year old gamer who's fixated on MMOGs of any type. I tend to look into the bare facts while voicing a rather loud opinion at the same time, no matter what.

Blogging: Tips and Tricks (Font Changing)
  Views: 390  |  Category : Tips and Tricks |  Post time : Apr 04, 2008    Comments: 8  |  Bookmark

For this article, I'm going to keep it to a very basic layout so that there's no clashing code. Sorry for those who anticipate nice looking articles - but the series of articles I'm going to be doing will help you do the same thing as the few of us who uses any type of code in our comments or our blog articles. I'm going to show you some very basic things today as to how to actually change your font, font background, and some boarders. Boarders are a bit more complicated, depending on how elaborate you want to get with them - but giving you the basics should at least help you learn how to modify the code to suit your own needs.

Changing your Font Colour

This is the easiest thing one can do to show a little creativity or add spunk to their comment. On your blog though, you can use the WYSIWYG (W.hat Y.ou S.ee I.s W.hat Y.ou G.et) editor (it makes things easier altogether). However, for the time being, you cannot do this with your comments - unless you use 'code' (or scripting, as I see it). So here's the most basic of way to change your font colour/s:

<FONT COLOR="purple">What you want to say here</span>

And it'll change your font colour to purple, pretty

Tips and Tricks: Images and Borders
  Views: 328  |  Category : Tips and Tricks |  Post time : Apr 09, 2008    Comments: 2  |  Bookmark

Back again, I'm here to address some more Tips and Tricks that help you make your blog entries or comments look more impressive and eye-catching. In this particular article, I'm going to elaborate on borders (which was the ending of the last Tips and Tricks); as well as explain how to align your images so that text can 'wrap' around it. Before we get too heavily into the tricks, keep in mind that you're allowed to use any of this as coding is 'free range' (meaning you cannot copyright, trademark, or license any coding/scripting done). If you're having troubles, you can always leave comments and I'll try to assist you in any way possible. If you want to learn more, I'll throw up some links in the next few articles (or in this one) to give you a few directions to learn more on your own.

Borders (Colours and Thickness)

Realistically speaking, I'm not going to go into too much depth as to how to control your borders. There are better resources. But some of the mandatory features that I'm going to address are: Colouring your Borders and Deciding How 'Thick' it is. By thickness, I speak of the thickness of the line that is the border. Thickness can be quite interesting becau

DO NOT BE ALARMED!
(I've been trying to figure out the answer to this one too)

Actually, the past few weeks I've been focusing on my real life situations that I need to get through before I can jump back into the article-writing and reviewing phase of my life. I'm aware that many people have messaged me, asking me for contact details because I'm not around on here these days. So, what the hell, might as well give you folks what you want. I'm at the computer from time to time; just that I do not have the time nor motivation to start writing here at the time. MMOSite has been very generous to me and I appreciate everything that those who have helped me become this 'well-known' have done for me (Ben, Michelle, and Daimon).

I've tried not to put aside MMOSite too much, but I have to be realistic in the fact that it did occupy a lot of time (playing games to get an honest 'point of view' on them [6-12 hours a day, depending on the game]). So I just don't have the time to put forth all that energy and power behind writing. Yes, Writer Club members get paid for doing it - but living off of $100 (That's exactly £47.93 here in the UK) isn't enough to feed myself, shelt

Clones? What the Hell?!
  Views: 295  |  Category : Articles (MMOGs) |  Post time : May 09, 2008    Comments: 6  |  Bookmark

So, here I am looking at the posed question to the Writer's Club and pondering how am I meant to respond to something like "What do you think about the clone phenomena?". I've been playing MMOs for quite some time now; in fact, longer than many average players to the genre these days. Most of those that were about around the time that I started have 'grown up' and gone their seperate ways from gaming in general. My intial reaction to the question was: "I can't be expected to right about this, it's so..not me." After some persuading, I realised that this could be about how I feel about anything similar to this 'direction' in the MMORPG industry. My absolute opinion on the matter is very straight to understand: There is no such thing as a CLONE in the gaming industry.

Yes, I will openly admit that there are many games that follow very similar graphical engines and very similar 'techniques' to appeal to potential members. But how can anyone say that it's a "rip-off" of a game? Most of these people have no clue when the game(s) in question originally came out. Or more importantly, the differences between both titles. This whole de

Splices' Interviews: IGG on Wonderland Online!
  Views: 659  |  Category : Splices Exclusive! |  Post time : May 06, 2008    Comments: 2  |  Bookmark

That's right! I've been able to score an interview with none other than Edwin Huang, the Product Manager for Wonderland Online over at IGG (Intenet Gaming Gate). My experiences in-game and some of the more elaborate questions that plagued my mind after looking into Wonderland Online forced me to try to find out more, yet from the source. It's an honour to have Mr.Huang answer the questions that I've asked, and I appreciate his time and effort taken in responding to me as well. Without further ado, here's the interview itself.

Splices: Just so the record is straight, who am I talking with and what is your position at IGG?
Huang: I am Edwin Huang, the Product Manager of Wonderland Onlinefor IGG. Wonderland Online is the sixth MMOG currently being published via IGG.com.

Splices: Lets say I've never heard of Wonderland Online at all. What key points about the game do you think are most interesting to a gamer?
Huang: Well, the most distinct feature of Wonderland Online is that players can have a [HOME] in the game. With the help of the manufacturing system, players can decorate their houses with all kinds of furniture.

Unique Housing System

About Me

Born on 2nd of May 1984, I grew up in the rural area of St.Mary's County (Maryland, USA). My mother was a wiccan, my father wasn't really known whatsoever. At a young age, my mother started to tutor me in Mathematics, Writing, and Reading. By the time that I started school, I had a very basic understand of Algebra and was reading at what was proclaimed [at the time] at college-level. Most of my focus on academics came from the fact that I had health problems when I was very little (2-9 years old) and had to spend the better part of that timte lip-reading due to hearing problems.  I skipped two grades (second and seventh).

Most of my patience and understanding has come from the guidance of my mother, who passed away when I was 12 years old (no pity party, please - just explaining my background). Even before this occurred, however, I was pretty fixated in the computing scene. My mother had bought me a Commodore64 when I was six years old (on my birthday, in fact). That same day, I hooked up that old 9600 Baud Modem to the phone line and started on my way of looking at BBS (Bulletin Board Systems) that were withing the local (same state) region. Inevitably, my mother grew t

Wonderland Online Review!
  Views: 906  |  Category : Previews (MMOGs) |  Post time : May 01, 2008    Comments: 1  |  Bookmark

Wonderland Online, published by IGG, is a game that brings the old-school RPG game-play to the world of the Internet – creating a very weird hybrid-type of MMORPG. Just so we’re straight, IGG is known to publish some rather unique or ‘cute’ looking MMOs and Wonderland Online (WLO) is no exception. This game is filled with cute little characters that you encounter or that you can choose to play yourself. Looking and playing this game can be a unique experience altogether; for some, good and others, bad. It’s one of those games that are ‘in between’ at all times and it takes the subjective mind to distinguish what one feels as good or bad.

Smackdown Style!

Starting out with some of the more simple features of the game, we have customizable characters. Each character has his or her own special tactics and techniques; but, to make things more interesting, WLO allows you to change the colour of your character’s hair, eyes, and skin (using Red, Blue, Green sliders – so there is such a thing as customization!). You only have this option during character creation, so you best take your time to decide what colour

Player Focus: Vass
  Views: 299  |  Category : Player Focus |  Post time : Apr 09, 2008    Comments: 1  |  Bookmark

Welcome to the first Player Focus! From time to time, I'm going to find players that are willing to take part in a very simple interview. Don't get too upset now, that you weren't the first player - this is really a test run to see how it works out in its environment. If you're interested in being part of my Player Focus, please send me a PM on the forums or view my contact information to find other ways to talk to me. These interviews are based on what you, the player, would like to see from companies that publish your favourite MMOs and what you'd want to happen in the future of MMO. Don't be shy, I'm planning on running about two of these per week if I get enough participants!

Today's highlighted player is: Vass, from Canada. I've personally known Vass from various games; considering he's one of the few people who tag-along when I'm in IRC talking about some game that I'm hooked on. He's played an array of different games out of boredom but is currently focused around NtreevUSA's Grand Chase. This interview was a trial one; so lets just see how it rolls and get accustomed to some of my questions I'll be asking.

Splices: What are the MMOGs that you're playing cur

First Look: Florensia
  Views: 1244  |  Category : Previews (MMOGs) |  Post time : Mar 26, 2008    Comments: 17  |  Bookmark

 Overview Information

Alaplaya has recently started publishing Florensia, a 3-D enriched environment MMORPG geared towards different styles of combat and classes. Sadly, at the time of printing, this game is undergoing Closed Beta, whereas the only ways to have recieved a key are practically unavailable to those anxiously wanting to play it due to the hype surrounding it. Alaplaya is the publisher for many MMOGs that are typically unique, interesting, and not of the 'norm'. It seems that the decision to 'aquire' Florensia under its list of titles will prove them to be more capable of handling 'standard' MMOGs out there, keeping in tune with a soon-to-be classic MMORPG like Florensia.

I was lucky enough to score a Closed Beta Key from MMOsite while they were still available. Once again, to obtain one it was basically the whole "spam the forum and spend some MMOsite Forum Points". I'm normally unkeen to this method of obtaining Closed Beta Keys; but I can't complain considering I wasn't naturally invited by Alaplaya to actually participate in this Closed Beta session outside of obtaining a key for myself. The community seems close-knit, those who were fortunate eno

Community Focus: Hackers vs Players
  Views: 641  |  Category : Articles (MMOGs) |  Post time : Mar 18, 2008    Comments: 5  |  Bookmark

A topic that comes up in every game and every era of MMOGs is the neverending supply of Hackers and their onslaught against the game(s) that we hold so dear to us. These are the people who seem to make our gaming experiences that much more problematic and difficult to endure. But how do they seperate the community even more so than ourselves? If the "legit" players of the community weren't problematic enough, what about those who exploit the system that runs and maintains our most cherished games? Our adversities are actually our fellow players, and the types that jump up in levels or kill us in two attacks at level 1 make things much more complicated than they should be. Jealousy runs through our veins because we see these people out level us in the most immoral kind of ways.

Common Memory Editor

These hackers end up using memory and/or packet editors to manipulate the client that we, the normal players, have been using for ages in ways that are completely illogical. Everything from gravity modifications to damage modifiers are found in the most under-played games on the Internet. Even when you least expect it, that silly little Flash-based game you play when you're bor
