MMORPGs, games that most of the time allow the players to use any weapon they seek and want to use.
but, most of the weapons have lost their souls.
Weapons like One-handed swords, Maces, Axes, and other weapons like Wands and Crossbows arn't used a lot in MMORPGs now days.
Now you're saying something like "I've seen a lot of characters using one-handed axes with one-handed maces!!"
but it's completely wrong, it is Dual-Wielding!
Dual-Wielding is always considered as much stronger then One-handed weapon, nearly 50% stronger and 50% faster in most MMORPGs, which is why you would never meet a person with just 1 one-handed sword.
But, there is a role class that mostly uses those one-handed weapons, Warriors.
a lot of time used just to allow the power of wearing a shield, allowing them to be a "tank" against an enemy, thus giving them less attack and speed but A LOT more defense.
A Warrior that uses a one-handed sword with a shield. (from Maple Story)
Every class uses a shield, you're one-shooted in PvP without. (From Trickster Online)
I myself, a fan of the anime Bleach that mostly has one-handed sword wielders, very disappointed of developers that just doesn't allow those players who like One-handed swords than just two-handed huge swords that looks like the player can barely hold.
Beware of 10T sword wielder Elves. (From Neo Steam)
Every weapon-style should be balaced like every class is (well, some classes arn't balaced).
If a one-handed mace can't beat a two-handed mace, then the one-handed mace should be able to use much faster attacks, not always dual-wield to get to the same level of attack!
A dagger dual-wielder Blood Elf Rouge versus a one-handed mace wielder Draenei Paladin (from World of Warcraft: The Burning Cruasde)
In the end, warriors just switch to another outstanding unbalaced weapon, spears.
