SOE have announced that COSMIC RIFT, TANARUS and INFANTRY, three of their ancient online multiplayer games, will now be free to play for current and new Station subscribers. (source: blues) Unfortunately, at the time of this writing, the Sony Station site is down for extended maintenance. When it comes back up you can explore the various official hubs for COSMIC RIFT, TANARUS and INFANTRY. Theses games are definitely showing their age, but there is some fun to be had. The price point is certainly nice. “INFANTRY Wikipedia Quote: In May 2002, Sony Online Entertainment introduced a monthly $6.95 pay-to-play subscription, titled the Station Pass. This fee was applied for Sony Online Entertainment’s three action titles at the time: Infantry, Cosmic Rift, and Tanarus. However, both Infantry and Cosmic Rift featured a free play mode that gave players access to a limited version of the game. Infantry itself was restricted to a limited playtime on servers (a player could only stay connected for half an hour before being disconnected), the inability to accumulate money, no statistical tracking and no personalised options.”

COOBICO - A cute, cartoony-deal “where multiplayer tycoon-gaming meets web chat”. Essentially being a Flash-based multiplayer-game, Coobico will take place in stunningly mind-boggling… isometric 2D. To put a good face on the matter: it’s a lightweight strategy-game with no retail box to purchase, no cumbersome client software to download and install and no nasty DRM. Just click and you’re in. In this game, avatars can be customizable and clothable from head to toe.

The upcoming MMO Fury features fast action and some of the ol' ultra-violence. This game is fun to play, and it's so over the top it's hilarious. Best of all, the developers have a sense of humor that's not to be missed. Gamebunny's hosting an outstanding Fury video right here, which allows you to get a feel for the game. It includes a number of brutal finishing moves and, for reasons we don't fully understand, a lot of scenes of players getting kicked across the room, down the hall, and 40 yards down the street. It's worth a look, that's for sure!

Well, according to the Inquirer, it's called Hydra. The story goes like this: An Inquirer reporter is walking around at the Austin Game Developer's Conference, and he overhears two Blizz Employees chatting. Here's what they say: Blizzard Employee 1: What are you working on? Blizzard Employee 2: Starcraft II, and you? Blizzard Employee 1: I am working on Hydra.
The above little exchange has fueled endless amounts of internet babble and speculation. What is Hydra? A new Blizzard IP? Or could it be a Diablo III reference (there's hydras in that game, right?) or maybe a reference to a Starcraft MMO (there's hydralisks or...something in that gamer, right?) or....well, the speculation goes on and on. And on. And on some more.
Allow the goblins to lend a wee bit of insight into this who speculative foray. We had the chance to interview Chris Sigaty in Korea earlier this year. Chris is the lead developer for Starcraft II, and he told us that the code name for SCII had been Medusa. Though it didn't make the transcript of the interview, Chris advised us that the name was meaningless. It was simply a tool to allow people to talk about the project without giving away anything about it. Our bet i

August 28, 2007 - A development team based in Santiago, Chile, is using Valve's Source engine to create a new first-person action game.
Zeno Clash is being built around up-close, first-person melee combat and is set in a "punk fantasy" world, according to Valve and newly-formed developer ACE Team.
The first chapter of the game is set in a chaotic world in which the main character, Ghat, has been banished by his own brothers and is forced to journey across a forbidden desert.
ACE Team is a new studio comprised of professional game designers, artists, and programmers who have worked on a number of games for both PC and Xbox Live Arcade platforms, according to a joint statement sent out by Valve and ACE on Tuesday.
The Source engine is the core technology behind Valve's Half-Life 2.
"Working with Source gives us the features, tools, and flexibility we need in an engine to bring to life a game world beyond anything seen before," said Andres Bordeu, game designer with ACE Team.
The game is scheduled to be released sometime in 2008.

August 23, 2007 - GameStop Corp. on Thursday reported record financial results for the second quarter of its 2007 fiscal year, boosting its earnings nearly seven-fold over the same period in 2006.
The Texas-based owner of GameStop and EB Games retail stores reported net earnings of $21.8 million for the quarter ended Aug. 4, a huge increase over its earnings of $3.18 million during the corresponding quarter in 2006.
The company's new game sales jumped by 49 percent over last year, but new hardware sales sweetened the pot, enjoying an 87-percent leap in sales compared to the second quarter of 2006. GameStop recorded a whopping $1.3 billion in sales this quarter, beating its sales and growth predictions on almost every count.
"During this quarter, we opened 150 new stores and now operate 4,954 stores in 16 countries. GameStop surpassed the 1,000 store count internationally and we are well on our way to achieving our forecast of opening between 500 and 550 new stores during the year," said company chairman and CEO Richard Fontaine.
Based on this quarter's financials, GameStop on Thursday issued new future earnings estimates, predicting that same-store sales will increase by 30 to 32 perc
