August 13, 2007 - Sony has made much of its plans for user-generated content with the upcoming releases of Little Big Planet and Home turning players into designers. Ubisoft also recognizes the potential in putting the focus on the player, and apparently has a secret game in the works that will do just that.
According to
gamesindustry.biz, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot announced at his keynote speech at the Edinburgh Interactive Festival this morning that the company is developing a game in which user-created content will be the primary focus. As part of a plan to open the industry up to new consumers, Ubisoft plans to shine the spotlight on the user and reward them with incentives for their creative work.
"The goal is really to make sure our consumers become creators," said Guillemot.
"We need to put gamers in the spotlight and recognize their creativity and make sure that our consumers are the stars.
"We are making sure that the consumer is rewarded for his creativity and that he is judged by the community, and these elements will encourage this person to continue his creativity. And once he knows how to use our tools he will create more."
