At ComicCon San Diego 2007, I had the extreme delight of meeting Troy Hewitt, Community Manager for Pirates of the Burning Seas from Flying Labs Software. Now here is a man with a passion for showcasing what should be an incredibly fun (and somewhat addictive) title to the gaming masses. After talking with him for just a very short time, his enthusiasm made me immediately wish that the game was already available for purchase, or at the very least, in a form of beta that I could partake in. Much to my surprise, they were indeed sporting a closed beta program. I was given a key, told to email Mr. Hewitt to get an account activated after ComicCon, and I would be off to the races. There are indeed benefits to attending public conventions where game developers are strutting their stuff.
The backdrop of the MMOG is set in the Caribbean during the early 18th century, in a bold new world where one man (or woman!) can make a difference, and carve out of piece of that world to capture and call their very own. The game is broken up into two distinct combat forms: first person melee fighting, and ship to ship combat. You are, after all, a pirate - what other things could you possibly want to d

Answers by David Lin– Lead Programmer Questions by Onrpg Journalist- Brian Perry Jr. Onrpg: How has the development of GodsWar progressed? David Lin: GodsWar is moving into the first phase of alpha testing in which the primary systems have been finished. The other systems will be improved in following phases after the testing.
Onrpg: Have there been any unexpected difficulties that have come up while programming the game? David Lin: Well programming is moving forward smoothly because fortunately we have an experienced programming team. Of course bugs are unavoidable, especially in the character clothes-transfer systems, some special effects and our server capability. We spend considerable time and efforts to work out these issues as they arise.
Onrpg: Is it difficult to convert the game from being in Chinese to English, in terms of the code? David Lin: Not yet. It was in the preliminary stages that we thought of the conversion in language code. This issue was settled by creating different language packages.
Onrpg: Are there things you wanted to do for GodsWar and cannot, or things that you found you could do that you did not think were possible? David Lin: Yes, we expected to use Flash E

First it was Han Solo, now it's Indy. LucasArts and Traveller's Tales Games recently announced that LEGO Indiana Jones: The Videogame [working title] will be coming to game consoles everywhere in summer 2008. Developed by the same team at Traveller's Tales that created the LEGO Star Wars series, LEGO Indiana Jones presents a tongue-in-cheek take on the first three cinematic adventures of pop culture's most iconic archaeologist, including "Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark," "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" and "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade." "LucasArts and TT Games are setting the bar for next-generation family entertainment with the LEGO Star Wars franchise, and our incredible relationship continues with LEGO Indiana Jones," said Jim Ward, president of LucasArts. "In addition to providing the quality bonding time inspired by any good family game, LEGO Indiana Jones delivers something a little different for everyone. Parents will enjoy the humorous take on some of their favorite movies, and their kids get some rousing action/adventure gameplay that may also introduce them to Indy's original adventures for the first time." "It has been a real joy to work with

All aboard for Middle Earth! Christopher Tolkien, son of the late, legendary creator of The Lord of the Rings, has completed an unfinished story started by his father which is to be published this April.
Mr Tolkien has spent the past 30 years working on The Children of Hurin, which his father began in 1918 and later abandoned. Though excerpts have been published this will be the first time a completed version of the epic story featuring the elves and dwarves of Middle Earth has appeared. It will be published by HarperCollins in the UK and by Houghton Mifflin in the US.
Mr Tolkien said: "It has seemed to me for a long time that there was a good case for presenting my father's long version of the legend of the Children of Hurin as an independent work, between its own covers."
Mr Tolkien, 81, who lives in France, has spent much of his life organising, deciphering and publishing stories of his father's that only appeared handwritten, often on scraps of paper. He has admitted that at times he has been forced to use guesswork to decide upon his father's intentions.
Despite this he has been a successful editor of his father's work and in 1977 he oversaw the publication of the novel The Si

Australia, July 29, 2007 - There's no question that, in a year of console launches and more development activity than ever, Australia has embraced gaming like never before. Australia's gaming industry has officially come of age, breaking the $1 billion sales mark over the past financial year, according to the Interactive Entertainment Association of Australia (IEAA). Compiled by GfK Australia, the latest statistics show an overall market increase of 30 per cent over the past six months, with over 5.5 million games and almost half a million gaming consoles sold since January 1 this year. "This is a spectacular result for the Australian gaming industry. Breaking through the $1 billion mark highlights the seriousness and sheer scale of the industry in Australia," says Chris Hanlon, CEO of IEAA. Check out the IEAA's latest findings: Australian Gamers ●The average age of Australian gamers is 28 years
●Interactive games are attracting new players, 41 per cent are female, 8 per cent are seniors ●Playing computer games does not compete with outdoor leisure activities; rather it competes with other media such as TV, film and music ●62 per cent of Australians in game househo
