The beta version of a huge Steam update that adds numerous community features has gone live for the public to test for themselves.
You can download the new update for free and get to grips with the new options that aim to allow friends, clans and tournament organisations to easily connect with each other all via Valve's online service.
The beta will allow you to create a Steam ID, which includes a photo or avatar and other profile details, create friends and group lists, chat with other gamers, and keep track of your stats. It will also allow you to plan and host your own matches, tournaments and LAN parties.
You can download the new beta from within your current Steam account or in any of the current library of Steam library of games.
"This upgrade marks the largest extension to the Steam platform since its first commercial release in March 2004," we're told. So get on it and enjoy.
