0 Digg it    UK, Euro CGS Qualifiers and Finals Announced
  Views: 4  |  Category : Default |  Post time : Aug 24, 2007    Comments: 0  |  Bookmark
UK, August 23, 2007 - If you've ever wanted to be a professional games player because, ooh, I don't know, it sounds more interesting than filing for a surveyor, then you might want to pop along to the freshly announced Championship Gaming Series UK and European qualifiers and finals.

Qualifiers are scheduled to take place between September 20 and 23 at Birmingham's recently opened Omega Sektor. If you're ready to test your mettle against some of the best gamers in the world, you can sign up to participate in the qualifying rounds at the Championship Gaming Series' official website - entrants will be selected on a 'first-come, first-serve' basis. For the more voyeuristically inclined, you can also spectate with increasingly shallow breath as some of Europe's best players, including 4Kings and Dignitas, pop their pads.

Two European teams (each consisting of ten players) will face-off in the European finals at Birmingham's Omega Sektor on September 24, while two UK teams are set to battle at the UK finals between September 26 and 28. The latter event takes place at Three Mills Studio in East London and will be televised on Sky One and Sky Two.

All four teams will recieve contracts with a

August 23, 2007 - GameStop Corp. on Thursday reported record financial results for the second quarter of its 2007 fiscal year, boosting its earnings nearly seven-fold over the same period in 2006.

The Texas-based owner of GameStop and EB Games retail stores reported net earnings of $21.8 million for the quarter ended Aug. 4, a huge increase over its earnings of $3.18 million during the corresponding quarter in 2006.

The company's new game sales jumped by 49 percent over last year, but new hardware sales sweetened the pot, enjoying an 87-percent leap in sales compared to the second quarter of 2006. GameStop recorded a whopping $1.3 billion in sales this quarter, beating its sales and growth predictions on almost every count.

"During this quarter, we opened 150 new stores and now operate 4,954 stores in 16 countries. GameStop surpassed the 1,000 store count internationally and we are well on our way to achieving our forecast of opening between 500 and 550 new stores during the year," said company chairman and CEO Richard Fontaine.

Based on this quarter's financials, GameStop on Thursday issued new future earnings estimates, predicting that same-store sales will increase by 30 to 32 perc

WarCry Q&A: Lunia
[i]Answers by Kim Young-Gook (Chief Exec. Director)
Questions by Nova Barlow

WarCry: What makes your game stand out?

Kim Young-Gook: It's the different play style.

It has been quite a while since online multiplayer games brought so much fun to the gaming world. But the booming online game market brought so many copycats following one or two very popular online gaming styles into many beings only to fail. We knew that unless we tried something entirely new, we wouldn't have any chance to survive. We approached our game design with new perspective. And that is, I think, mainly the reason why we are getting attention from the gaming world now.

Gamers get excited when they discover new experiences. And I don't say that only Lunia gives these fresh experiences, there are great games which have totally new and different game styles. Lunia wishes to be shoulder to shoulder with one of those great games.

WarCry: We've seen the term "arcade RPG" associated this title, which is not something a lot of people are familiar with. What does that mean?

Kim Young-Gook: We called it this because people can find places like 'Dave&Busters" where they can play video games and other things i

August 22, 2007 - Mass market fiction machine James Patterson has teamed up with a game developer and publisher to turn his books and characters into "multiplatform franchises" in the gaming market.

The author of "Kiss the Girls," "Roses are Red" and "Beach Road" now has an exclusive agreement with Oberon Media, a casual gaming distributor and merchandiser, and Elephant Entertainment, the casual games developer behind Dream Day Wedding, Flower Shop: Big City Break and Sword of the New World.

"Casual games and my novels share a common trait - mass-market accessibility - and so it is with great enthusiasm that we announce this innovative venture," said Patterson in a news release Wednesday. "With interactive entertainment, and casual games in particular, now available on mobile phones, PC's and television screens, this is a superb way to connect with my diverse group of readers, and do so with partners that can reach them anytime, in any format."

Like Patterson's novels, the games the group plans to develop will focus largely on a female audience.

"The accessibility, great characters and pacing of James Patterson's best-selling novels are a perfect fit for translation into mass-market ca

0 Digg it    GC 2007: Electronic Arts Press Conference
  Views: 5  |  Category : Default |  Post time : Aug 22, 2007    Comments: 0  |  Bookmark
August 22, 2007 - Electronic Arts kicked off the German Games Convention today with one of the first press conferences of the show.

EA started their conference with an impressive set of stats, stating that over two billion units of Sims games have been sold to date. Yes, that's two billion. They talked about how over half of the new gamers coming into the market today were casual gamers, while showing a picture of an elderly lady playing Wii Sports bowling. They said they would be pushing hard for the casual gamer over the next year, with over 40 games set to launch on Pogo. However, EA also admitted they had to strike a good balance between the casual and the hardcore, and they wouldn't be leaving out the core gamer in their approach.

With that said, they went into some demos of their big upcoming titles for 2007. A brief demo of Skate on the Xbox 360 was up first, which you can read about in our recent preview.

Some new details on FIFA 08 were announced at the show.

Next up were a few trailers for the next iteration of Need for Speed -- Pro Street -- and Crysis. The Pro Street trailer seemed like it was over almost before it started, and it didn't really show any gameplay. Crysis,

For months now, the denizens of Vana'diel have been racing the chocobos they have lovingly reared. Starting this month, the new Chocobo Circuit will allow adventurers to join teams and vie in direct competition for points, bragging rights, and items. Players will also get the chance to put their money where their mouth is with the introduction of chocobets.

What is the Chocobo Circuit?

By popular demand of breeders from all corners of the world wishing to prove the superiority of their birds, the Chocobo Circuit has opened at last. By now, many adventurers have gotten a taste of how fun and challenging chocobo racing can be. This will be the last major update to chocobo racing. Any future changes will only be minor modifications.

After painstakingly raising chocobos from the shell to the stables, breeders can now enter them in races against other adventurers from around Vana'diel. In addition, both breeders and common spectators alike can now enjoy a day at the races, complete with chocobets which allow you to lay down gil on the birds of your choice! These features will make the Circuit an enjoyable pastime not only for those already hooked on chocobo racing, but also for those who h

0 Digg it    Crossfire Becomes Conflict: Denied Ops
  Views: 4  |  Category : Default |  Post time : Aug 21, 2007    Comments: 0  |  Bookmark
August 20, 2007 - The paramilitary first-person shooter formerly known as Crossfire has taken on a new identity, becoming the latest installment in the Conflict series, publisher Eidos announced Monday.

Featuring cooperative gameplay and highly destructible environments, Conflict: Denied Ops focuses on so-called "deniable operatives," special forces soldiers who do the government's arm's-length dirty work.

According to an Eidos news release, the game's characters are ruthless, merciless, brutal and all-around just swell people.

"We are taking the Conflict series in a new direction, making it more explosive and mature," said Robert Lindsey, executive vice president of sales and marketing with Eidos. "Conflict: Denied Ops delivers large-scale Hollywood style action sequences in real-world political hot spots, sure to appease fans of the FPS genre."

We feel appeased already, and we haven't even had the chance yet to "brutalize the opposition" or "dissolve" threats in South America, Africa and Russia.

Conflict: Denied Ops will be the fifth game in the series and is scheduled for a spring 2008 release on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. But if you tell anyone you read it here, we'll deny ev
