0 Digg it    P2P: Is It Worth the Money?

Although the number of people subscribed to games that charge monthly fees for access continues to grow, we've all heard protests from those that refuse to pay any kind of regular fees to play a video game. Many are accustomed to the traditional retail offerings: buy the box, take it home, and play it forever, or until you get bored of it. By comparison, the $10-$15 per month a lot of MMOGs charge may look rather steep, but are they really a rip-off, or are they good value for your entertainment dollars?

Versus Other Video Games
My experience has been that video games, in general, are among the cheapest forms of entertainment to be found, particularly if you don't take the cost of the hardware into account. On the PC, gamers have quite a few free games to choose from, assuming they have an Internet connection.

Free is a good price, but free games don't always live up to the growing expectations of gamers.
At retail a single-player game can cost anywhere from $20 to $80, and usually provides dozens of hours of entertainment, potentially more if the game can replayed using a different class, faction, or gameplay mode. Even if you play through it only once and it takes 30-40 hours, o

  Views: 86  |  Category : Default |  Post time : Feb 24, 2008    Comments: 0  |  Bookmark

World Championship League, or WCL, made its opening salvo last February 16, 2008. WCL is a Kingdom War-type league wherein WYD players from Korea, Japan, China, Brazil, Philippines and Global server fight it out to be the best WYD server. WYD Global is relatively new to the game and to the league format compared to WYD giants Korea and Brazil. Will WYD Global make a stand and be the best WYD server?

WCL Match WYD Global vs WYD Korea

Last February 19, 2008, WYD Global faced off with the WYD powerhouse – Korea. The two servers fought a battle of power as each team rushed to kill their opponents’ king. The Koreans are the first to kill the Global Server’s General but shortly, Global managed to dispatch Korean’s General. An intense rush followed. Both Korea and Global are destroying each other’s barracks and disposing the guards. After a few more minutes, Korea got the upperhand and killed the opponent’s King. The Korea won the match and gave the Global server its first defeat.

The next match for WYD Global will be on February 22, 2008 against Philippines. Will the Global Server stand up now and win? As of the meantime, enjoy the video of our first match between Korea and Global server.

K2 Network publishing and operations execs Jeff Lujan and Bob Drobish have announced they have left the MMO service provider to form a new global online games publishing company, True Games Interactive.

Lujan will serve as True Games' Chief Publishing Officer, responsible for publishing, marketing, business development and product development. Drobish will take on the role of COO at True Games, handling business operation, live game operations, customer service and technology. True Games will focus on the free-to-play, microtransactions-driven business model for independent developers and publishers.

The company also says it will use its proprietary game platform for existing Asian content, in addition to working closely with Western developers to produce and publish new content globally. The Orange County, CA-based company adds is currently negotiating several product deals and seeking Series A funding. True Games plans to release its first title in the summer of 2008.

At K2, Lujan was senior VP of global publishing, product development, marketing and international business development, while Drobish, as senior VP of operations, was responsible for overall company revenue, live game

0 Digg it    Auran Confirms Layoffs, Slow Start For Fury
  Views: 324  |  Category : Default |  Post time : Dec 10, 2007    Comments: 0  |  Bookmark

In a new post on its official forums, Tony Hilliam, CEO of Fury developer Auran, is quoted as confirming that a slow start for the MMO has necessitated downsizing its 60 man team, as it moves to outsource development to Asia.

The post sees Hilliam saying that after a ramp up from 30 to 70 staff members as it completed Fury and its Battlestar Galactica XBLA game it has made some cutbacks to "focus on a smaller, more agile core team of Fury developers."

The CEO says it is working with fellow Australian developer Tantalus to move some displaced staff to that studio, which he notes is "working on DS and Wii titles," a process "taking place right now."

Finally, he notes that "during the past two years we successfully used several outsourcing companies and will be looking to China to create much of the new content that we will release in future [Fury] updates" and will be "talking with a number of publishers in Asia regarding co-development deals."

Auran has already seen major investment from China, getting AUD$4 million ($3.2 million) from China's CDC Corporation subsidiary CDC Games, which invested in primarily in Fury's development.

Saga is about to enter the final stage of its development when all of the exciting content currently on the internal servers is pushed to the live Beta in preparation for final release. In order to facilitate this stage and to control the flow of content for marketing purposes, the first part of this stage will take place during a closed beta.

We appreciate all of the feedback and assistance all of our fans have provided us during the past months; many of the new features being implemented during this stage are a direct result of player submissions. In appreciation, any player that logs in with a registered account between today and next Tuesday October 30th will be among the first group of players to be let into closed beta to experience the new content first hand.

We are extending the "2 for 1 booster pack" promotion, where every booster purchased during this phase of beta is worth 2 during release up till next Tuesday October 30th. Purchasing 5 boosters will result in a registered full version account when Saga launches.

ANNOUNCING THE END OF BETA 1 WORLD BURNING EVENT

We want to end this phase with a BANG; the type heard when a hundred cannon balls smash into the walls of your
