Chaos online CB review.

Category: Review Game: Default Posted on Dec 13, 2008 9:25 pm

Disappointment struck hard this week my friends and I reeled like one struck a blow, or at least this was my reaction whilst playing the game Chaos online which is currently in CB. At its core Chaos online had a decent foundation and storyline, also several unique concepts, but is ultimately let down by the poor visuals, sound and game play which is both boring and redundant.

Players are given the choice between two races, which I suspect, will become three or four a little later on. But, for now, your choice is between those who embrace technology and those that prefer to harness their powers from nature and the elements. Each race had three classes from which you can choose. Both have your warrior and mage archetype and the naturalists have a archer or ranger, whilst the tech-heads have a gunner. What really bugged me was that you could not even change the sex of your character. Warriors were male, that’s it… and the mages were female… I mean this is the 21st century people, has this company not heard of equality amongst the sexes or the ramifications of reflecting gender stereotypes? I guess not.

Anyway, pick your sever, your room, create your character and then once in the game, the first thing that will hit you is the distinctly poor graphics. I’m talking old, gritty looking trash. I think Diablo one looked better. You run around a bit, talk to NPCs, get your first skills, go kill some monsters, level up a bit, take this item there, then talk to this person about that person and so on it goes. It’s a great big repetitive cycle. Quests in this game are dull… very dull and either involve running back and forth across vast distances or killing countless legions of the same stupid looking beasty. Every once in a while you might get to kill some kind of boss-type creature in a party, but really, big whoop. Something I wish developers would take an interest in is variety… did you hear that people; VARIETY. Why do they seem to think I want to play their trashy looking run-of-the-mill MMOPG when there are literally countless others I could play, a vast number of which look ten fold better? Who knows.

Combat, as you have guessed, is your basic scenario of spot monster, click on it twice and wait. Oh, you might want to throw a skill in there every so often, but you really don’t have to. This game, like several other recently released titles, includes a robot. Yes, this allows players to switch it on and go do something else why the character continues on an endless killing spree for so long as you might desire. You can even get things from the cash chop which will pick up loot automatically. Cool? I think not. What’s the point. I mean what’s worse than something that’s boring? Something that is boring and requires no effort, that’s what and that is just what this game is, boring.

So after you have killed five billion of the same silly looking thing and now have ten-ton of scrap and material, I guess you can go do some redundant crafting, or enhance your armour with crystals, or the power drained from the dead creatures you fought. Yeah, like we haven’t seen this before.

Essentially, you click where you want to go, level up, kill monsters, collect junk, create junk for more gold, run around like a fool doing silly quests and I suspect at some point there might come to be some form of PvP, but at the moment its all PvR. What’s the point? Well, there isn’t one. Games like this were fine ten years ago, but not anymore. We are living in a new age were possibilities have become endless so I for one am not putting up with run of the mill junk anymore. A few more stupid, redundant or outdates titles like this and I’ll be willing to pack gaming away for good. Yeah, you heard me… wake me when something good comes out.

This game is ruined by poor graphics and shallow design, limited character customization and a general lack of creativity. In full, the game is boring and a real let down considering it’s 775mb download, which, I must warn, DOES NOT INCLUDE AN UNINSTALL FEATURE… so take note of that people. I would have had more fun throwing rocks at a hornets nest this weekend… 1 out of 10. Yeah, you heard me, you should be ashamed of yourself for even releasing this junk.

That is just unbeleivable, who in their right mind would even make such a game???
