The next best MMO maybe - Ultima Online + World of WarcraftCategory: Default Posted on Jun 18, 2009 Add to Bookmark |

It's the MMO equivalent of a boxing love child of Frazier and Ali, of a cross between PC and a Mac with Linux on it, of a Islamic Christian religion, needless to say, it's one hell of a heavyweight and it is ready to make some pretty freaking huge waves. Ultima on World of Warcraft or UoWoW (pronounced you-oh-wow) is a private World of Warcraft server designed to mimic the gaming mechanics and concepts of Ultima Online. While only developed by a small team, its population is growing every day with its reputation. ![]() Ultima first began its life in 1980 as a very basic ASCII RPG. You played 'The Stranger' who takes it upon his/herself to find and destroy the gem that makes the evil wizard, Mondain, immortal. As with all evil wizards, Mondain is causing grief and devastation to all the local villages and towns with his minions and must be stopped! You didn't just jump straight into Ultima though, you first had to create your character that would be 'The Stranger'. The player could choose between four classes, four races, a gender and statistical layout that would be their character for the rest of the game. Such in-depth character creation at the time, coupled with the open ended nat |

LFG! My quest for a new MMO…Category: General Gaming Posted on Apr 23, 2009 Add to Bookmark |

WTB MMORPG, PSTThe first ever MMORPG I ever really played was a little bug filled game by the name of Shadowbane. A harsh and unforgiving MMO where PvP ruled with an iron fist. Where nation and guild leaders planned their cities, mines, diplomacy and forces as if they were playing an RTS. Where long battles for cities lasted for hours on end, and battles for mines went down to the very wire. But now those tense and exciting days are over: after five years, Shadowbane is being put out to pasture. ![]() So like that scene at the end of a certain classic romantic movie where the girl leaves with the other guy on a plane, never to be seen again, I am left without an MMO to fill my MMO-shaped hole in my heart. That is where you guys come into it. I COULD do what I've been doing and download one after another MMO in hopes of finding one that stimulates me like SB did, OR I could ask the large and knowledgeable mmosite community for their advice :). ![]() I'm after an MMO that is mainly PvP based. I am of the opinion that quest based MMOs aren't MMOs at all but merely single player games you can play co-operatively. The idea that you do a quest but that quest is only complete in your chara |

Commercial MMORPG Goes Open Source!Category: Default Posted on Jan 03, 2009 Add to Bookmark |

Power to the GamersThe day is finally here! The day when developers reach a dead end and have two choices: close down the MMORPG or give out the source code and let the MMORPG live on through the fans! In all my life of playing MMOs have I ever seen the latter done, not until now (well not that I'm aware). From what started out as an idea to created a modable MMORPG has evolved into a proposed open source project. ![]() Let me give you the timeline of events. In late 1993, a small company, Cyan Worlds, run by the Miller brothers released a game called Myst. This game blew the face off of the gaming industry. Myst was the first widespread game that was played by non-gamers. It was also the first game to be released exclusively on CD-ROM and held the title of highest selling PC game for nine games until The Sims exploded on PC in 2002. Myst was simple in that is was merely a point and click adventure (you click on the screen where you want to go and then you go there). Because it was all pre-rendered and used footage of real actors that would react with the computer generated environment, the visuals were absolutely stunning in comparison to almost anything that came before it - especially |

New Year Resolutions - How to Start Your Year of Gaming in StyleCategory: General Computing Posted on Dec 25, 2008 Add to Bookmark |

Starting the New Year in StyleEveryone has makes ridiculous new year resolutions that they promise that they are going to keep (starting tomorrow of course), but can you think of any you've kept in all your years of making them? I bet a large sum of Shadowbane gold that you can count them off on one hand, if any. Well how about setting yourself a new years resolution that's sweet and simple, that's highly beneficial, and that you'll actually keep. No it's not "I'll spend more time playing X game" or anything trivial like that - no, no, no. Let us all make a New Years Resolution to keeping our computers healthy! Well, after all, without them you guys wouldn't be here - and a healthy computer is a fast running, stable computer. There is always the chance that this'll be like every other resolution you've ever made and fall by the wayside, so let's at least start the year with a clean and happy PC. Deleting the Crap![]() This is something we just don't do, and that our computer is horrible doing itself. Let's start by going into Windows control panel and double-clicking "Add or Remove Programs". Once that has loaded search through the list for those programs yo |

Wouldn't You Rather Be Kicking Arse?Category: Default Posted on Nov 21, 2008 Add to Bookmark |

Shadowbane Recruitment DriveATTENTION! Shadowbane's offical site is here and not here. Shadowbane is 100% free! The latter website is the offical ubisoft website, ubisoft have since abandoned Shadowbane and pretend it doesn't exist, hence the website hasn't been updated in two-three years. The former website is the website maintained by the developers who run the servers and keep it maintained. Desperate times call for desperate measures! The Zerg is slowly taking over the servers it's time to call upon outsiders to pick up the sword and fight for a monopoly free servers in the greatest pvp mmorpg of all time. Yes I DID just make that claim. The GREATEST PvP MMORPG of all time. So here it is, finally, the complete guide to reel you in to the greatest PvP experience you will ever have the pleasure of playing. Let me show you my battleground… The BasicsI'm going to get this out of the way as soon as possible, this game has no quests. In Shadowbane it's kill or be killed (or, on the occasion that you play a priest, heal or not be so heal :S, yeah I really don't know where I was going with that). The action revolves around player created nations, the sworn guilds of that na |

Live and Let Die!Category: General Gaming Posted on Nov 13, 2008 Add to Bookmark |

When you were young, and your heart was an open book. You used to say “live and let live.” (You know you did, you know you did, you know you did). But if this ever changing world in which we live in makes you give in and cry. Say “LIVE AND LET DIE!”¹ *jumps around with simultaneous air-piano and guitar followed by air-orchestra composing* Oh yes! Say live and let die indeed! Fly those arrows, stab those swords, swing those axes and cast that magic, because today it's all about killing people, well, more specifically, their deaths, and what's beyond. It doesn't matter what MMO you're playing, if you ever don a sword, shield, dagger, bow, mace, spear, pole-arm, brass knuckles or a very suspicious book/scroll on magic, it's a safe bet to assume you're going to die sooner or later (my money's on the former). It's how you die and what happens when you die that has me interested. The word 'death', when searched in an online dictionary, came up with a few interesting results: the time at which life ends; the absence of life; the permanent end of all life functions in an organism or part of an organism; the event of dying or departure from life; and so o |

The Hills are Alive with the Sound of SlaughterCategory: General Gaming Posted on Nov 12, 2008 Add to Bookmark |

Music in MMOs. I honestly don't know about you guys, but if I really love an MMO, like I'm talking sketching out battle plans or possible character builds so I can test them out as SOON as I get in the door kind of love (okay, so I may be confusing love for addiction, but hey, who's keeping track) then you probably don't have the in-game music blaring, if even playing at all. Farming for *insert item/s here* for *insert time-frame here* gets old pretty quickly with the same one minute forty-six second ambient song looping with the occasional thirty-nine second ambient interlude. So it's decided then: music get the flick in lieu of your own collection and/or ventrilo/teamspeak. I don't like this. In films, in TV, in games, in audio books (you'd be surprised), music play the ultimate role of chief mood setter. Go watch out a critically acclaimed, super scary horror flick you never seen before with the sound turn down and just the subtitles on. The only scare you're probably going to get is the cat jumping on your face, wanting attention after you've fallen asleep. There's no mood! Without mood you have nothing more than people moving around having a chat and occasionally hit |

Blogs taken out of contextCategory: General Gaming Posted on Nov 11, 2008 Add to Bookmark |

As much as I am honoured that my article "breasts" has become a feature, the stylistic edits that the MMOSITE editors have made to the layout and title have changed the context of the article. Suddenly I've gone from making a comment to standing on a soapbox preaching to the heathens. For example, the title was changed from 'Breasts' to 'Please Put Something On Their Breasts!'. The modified title makes it look like I am somehow offended by breasts and my post is a some kind of feminist article written to condemn any exposed or half exposed breasts. It also implies that the inverse, male chests that are frequently exposed is perfectly okay in my eyes and it's just the breasts that are the problem. All of that couldn't be further from the truth. This article was written about breasts and inappropriate clothing (of both sexes) that features in the majority of adult orientated MMORPGs. I focused on females and breasts because they really the most ill-dressed of the two sexes (although some of the cod pieces featured are pretty stupid looking). With that one title change it has made me look like a whinging super uptight right wing christian soapbox preacher with nothing |

BreastsCategory: General Gaming Posted on Nov 06, 2008 Add to Bookmark |

Breasts. Yes, breasts. Hetro/bisexual men cannot get enough of them. Hell, even homo/bisexual woman think they're a thing of beauty (woman talk for 'they can't get enough of them'). And they seem to appear, bigger and bouncier in almost all new adult orientated mmo releases. Now I'm not against having female characters in game. I'm not against female characters having a chest (although, realisticly, with their body shape and what they do in the game, a DD bra size is very unlikely), I'm not sizest! What annoys me is the 'armour' or lack of that's covering our females. Here is a perfect example from both sexes on ridiculously inappropriate battle dress.
Actually, I struggle to understand where on earth this would be appropriate. The last strippers I saw started off with a hell of a lot more on than that. I hope you don't jump in that game otherwise our little huntress is going to be worrying about more than just the opponent.
Now this is appropriate battle dress! I wonder if female characters in C9 have the equivalent kick-arse attire. It seems that cabal has got the right idea (somewhat). It seems you can |
