FreeStyle Street Basketball is a MMOSG (massively multiplayer online sports game). There are several different versions of this game. The North American version is published by Sierra Online.
FreeStyle Street Basketball is a free fast-paced online basketball game where players meet on virtual courts to challenge each other. The game鈥檚 easy-to-learn controls allows one to master every move, from simple shots to Alley-Oop Dunks, using just four keys. Lace up your kicks to play 1-on-1, 2-on-2, or 3-on-3 street-basketball online against people from around the country. FreeStyle is all about action. No fouls. No free throws. Nothing is out of bounds. The only rules to watch for are the 24-second shot clock and the clearing the ball outside the three point line before you can shoot when you take possession.
The North American version of FreeStyle offers seven different channels that are divided into subcategories of Rookie and Pro. Rookie offers a level 1-3 server for newcomers, a level 4-7 server, a level 8-15 server and a level 4-45 server. Pro offers a level 16-24 server, a level 25-45 server, and a level 16-45 server. When first starting an account, players can choose between a guard, forward, and center. Once the character reaches level 15, the guards and forwards can specialize into either a Point Guard, Shooting Guard, Small Forward or Power Forward.
PG - The controller of the flow of the game who specializes in running, passing and stealing.
SG - Deadly shooter who specializes in running and the 3-point shot.
SF - The most versatile scorer in the game who specializes in mid-range jumpers.
PF - Versatile 2pt/post-up game player who specializes in jumping and dunking.
C - Controller of the low post game who specializes in rebounding and blocking
Items can be bought in-game to enhance character attributes. Items either cost points, which are accumulated through playing experience, or bills, which are obtained by exchanging real-life money.
Now, time for my ratings.
Gameplay: 8.5/10
This is most
definitely a great sports MMOSG, especially going F2P, but there's lot's of stuff that should be improved. In the Korean version, full court and clubs are in the game, the USA still has to get that. Also, the game has very bad physics. Like sometimes you can block a shot that was shot about 3 seconds ago which is way over your head, or the fact that there are lots of laggers.
Sound: 9/10
Voices, soundtrack, everything is excellent and is presented in a decent way. Hiphop fans will love the soundtrack and for those who don't, you can simply turn it off and turn on your favorite music player and have it play some music in the background.
Community: 4/10
This community - simply is horrible. Noob, noob, noob is all I hear. Lot's of people are kicked for a low level. Also, if you've had an off day, and your stats go down, they simply think you suck and kick you. If you are levels between 15 - 29, you are going to experience lots of kicking.
Overall - the game is good, the community, however - is terrible. I suggest this game if you are an NBA Street fan or a simple NBA fan. Hope you enjoyed this review and I hope you break some ankles on the court. Until next blog!
