Bastard Online - More than just a curse-friendly expirience... online.

Category: Default Game: Default Posted on Feb 27, 2009 7:00 pm

Before I go on writing this article, I should let you all know that I'm not saying the curseword itself, or any curse word for that matter, directly. In fact, the title of this MMO that I am going to write on about, I am using the Paste feature for, to prevent my otherwise morally clean fingers as well as my mouth (erm... even though I did say some curse words... but those moments were scarce...)

But enough of that. Let's get to the main article.

Bastard Online, developed by Tecmo, as in that company that makes Dead or Alive... you know, with the bouncy-bouncy? High kicks? ...Nevermind.

Anyway, BO is an MMORPG (or in the development case, MMOMP, or Massively Multiplayer Online Money Pit... which I find kind of sad if they're going to use an Item Mall ._.; ), based on the manga by the name of... you guessed it.... Bastard!!... which, in irony, is published in Shounen Jump. Both the manga and its MMO counterpart feature a medieval Dungeons and Dragons world chock full of magic, monsters... and bouncy-bouncy. I guess that last part was why Tecmo agreed to help out in getting BO underway, huh?

Anyway, I have decided to share some stuff I've gathered from the few books I've read (via OneManga... I would be glad to pay for the books myself to support the publisher and whatnot... but there's the issue with money, and going out and... yeah), so we can come into the world of the game more prepared.

From what I've gathered from the Trailer, it seems that we will be able to interact with the NPCs in-game... provided that the crowd doesn't get too rowdy, which I fear for the most... ^^; A few of these NPC's are the actual main characters found within the manga, including:

-Dark Schneider (a.k.a. Darsh, Darshu, or DS) - Yep, the guy who can be seen in trailers flying, laughing, casting spells or having his clothes ripped off.

Ripped. Off.

In fact, in the manga his clothes get ripped off practically every freaking time, leaving him as bare as... as... well, he's bare, okay? It's a fortunate thing he can summon clothing from practically nowhere, as he loses his clothes A LOT... besides, someone might get traumitized...

Oh yeah, and he's a powerful wizard, got involved with four other lords who in the manga were awakening some god of destruction, goes all perverted on women, is mainly an egotist, etc.

-Tia Moto Yoko (a.k.a. Yoko for short) - The daughter of a high priest, and protector of Lucien (DS' bodily vessel who is a young boy otherwise... ._.; ). She is said to be DS' main love interest, but, well, she doesn't take too kindly to his advances (as seen in the trailer).

-Princess Sheelia - Princess of Metallicana, where the manga and (supposedly) MMO take place. I'm guessing that she's supposed to be some sort of possible faction leader according to the trailer, but if there are factions, Sheelia's is the one I'm joining! Just don't ask why... I just felt it would be nice to join the 'good guys' side. ^^;

-Ninja Master Gara - One of the four lords that DS previously worked with, and again, a possible faction to join with. In the manga, he first made his appearance sometime into the early chapters, kidnapping Yoko and luring Sheelia, DS and the others into his fortress, which in turn brought forth some crazy stuff... I wonder if some of the quests might involve re-enacting the manga's events? Hm...

-Ashes Nei, Thunder Empress (according to Wikipedia) - Another one of the four lords, and once more possible faction leader. She is stated to be half Dark Elf and half Human. This gives forth the possibility of playable races, though I can't put a finger on what those gnomish things with large heads are... ._.;

-Kall-su - Most likely other faction leader (and one of the four lords), according to the trailer. I'd say something about him... but... well, I can say that he has the same hair color as DS? *brick'd*

-Dark Priest Abigail - Another lord, though I haven't come to him very much where I'm at manga-wise. Though he does resemble that major baddy guy from Shadow Hearts: Covenant. XD

With that much about the manga's character's stated, I will also let you know that there would be some special spells, which are named after heavy metal bands (as well as some of the characters, places, etc.), are going to be special-effects heavy. Not as in useless flashy stuff seen in Perfect World's games. I mean major explosions... I swear those are bodies flying in one of the screenshots where some expansive explosion spell is used. ._. I wonder if more spells are going to be named after stuff found in Heavy Metal...? That's going to be some heavy metal thunder right there... *cough*.. I think I've expirience some hit to my braincells... >.>;

I've uncovered as much as I could on the MMO for now, or at least I would think so. But some stuff in here is based on presumption only, so those concepts may turn out different than what I've described? *shrug*

With that said, see you on the flipside! ...Or however else those heavy metal dudes or manga's fans say it?

 Probably, maybe they wanted to advertise this game or something, but having your stuff modified without your notice seems like someone hacked your profile although improved your blog... awkward...

Nice article, very descriptive and whole heartedly humorous. I watched the trailer before reading the article and I still wondering if it's going to be one of those MMO's where spells ARE needed. That kinda turns me off, because what if I want to be a Melee DD and want to just use dual blades/axes? Will I need to cast spells too? Meh, I guess time will only tell for those questions. Also.... is interacting with the NPC's going to be instanced, because that is what it looks like. Or are the characters going to be assigned a certain class, which doesn't make much sense, because we'll just see tons of Dark's running around which might turn people away from it. I think it looks awesome and am putting it on my immense list of MMO's to watch for 2009. ^^
