Yes, another "stop blaming" blog.
I wish people would stop blaming MMO's for their life problems.聽 You're not a fat lazy pimple covered lout because of MMO's, you're a fat lazy pimple covered lout because you choose to sit on your butt and not do anything.聽 If the game didn't exist, you'd be sitting on your butt doing something else (or more accurately, nothing else).聽 You wouldn't be out being the king or queen of exercise just because MMO's didn't exist.
It's simple entertainment, it's not a drug.聽 Sure it's fun, sure it's easy to jump on a game and have it be a good fun world where everything has rules that are followed, you can be a hero or have power, when in the real world you have nothing and have to work too hard to get results.聽 But your nature as a lazy slob who doesn't want to work for real life results is what is causing your life to go into a downfall, not the online role playing game.
I've played MMO's for years.聽 I'm not fat, I'm not lazy, I don't sit around in a chair all day not able to log off.聽 Your lifestyle that you already live, your non social lifestyle where you feel your life is not going anywhere is what drew you into the game in the first place.
Don't blame the game because you can't control yourself.聽 Many of us play MMO's and still have lives at the same time.聽 Real life is what matters, MMO's are just games and entertainment.聽 You guys find other people who care only about the game life and get together and all get lost in the world together.聽 You make levels and game gear important.聽 To the rest of the real world, we don't care.聽 You can be part of that real world, you don't have to hide in video games all day long.
Many of us make the ballance of having a real life and playing games at the same time.聽 How can we do this if it is the fault of the game that you're lazy and can't stop?聽 That is like blaming a food for tasting too good.聽 There is self control, there is reality, you are making your own life choices, do not blame it on a game.
I play sports, I go out with friends, I have a nice real life because I choose to go out and make life good for me instead of just sulking and hiding in the game all day.聽 And yes, some people have terrible home lives where the game is an excape into an alternate reality that isn't so terrible.聽 That isn't the fault of the game, that is the fault of the home life and people around you.聽 The game is a nice temporary escape, but you are choosing to let it rule your life.
You CAN stop caring that a person with no life is higher level than you or has better equipment.聽 Trust me, I do it just fine.聽 If you are getting older and lazier, that's life, it's not the fault of a game.聽 Energy goes away as you age.聽 You don't have to sit there all day, it's not that important.聽 Real life is important, games are the least important thing in the world!
Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love games and play them a little bit every day, but they are simply entertainment.聽 They are a big part of my entertainment but they are simply for temporary fun, and are the least important thing in life.聽 For some people with mental problems, they are a big important part of their lives, but there is an underlying cause of the mental problem that's being caused by something else, not the video games.
When you let yourself put importance on the games, you validate everybody else who wants to put that same importance on it, and then you all give each other excuses for sitting on your butt all day trying to get ahead in a virtual world that doesn't matter.
Don't blame the MMO's for your fat numb butt, blame yourself for sitting there.聽 If you feel yourself droning out, then get up and do something else.聽 Get yourself a pet to play with, that's at least real life.聽 Life does stink, but we can work to make it better instead of hiding from it.聽 If聽you put all the same time into making life better that聽you put into games,聽you wouldn't have or need an excuse to why things are so bad for you.聽 Games are easy, it's easy to escape into them, but that's your choice to be lazy, it's not the game's fault because it's easy and fun.
People online are generally 100 times聽more rude and mean than they'd be in real too, and when you start to go socialize with normal people, you may just find that you like it!
You play a video game, and are asked to do 500 meaningless tasks for virtual items not worth anything, and gladly exclaim "Yes I'll do it!"聽 Your parents ask you to take care of the dishes or take out the trash and you exclaim "Do it yourself!"聽 That's because you are lazy, it's not because video games make you lazy, you are choosing to sit there and do something you can do by wiggling your fingers.聽 If you want a real challenge, do something that involves moving more than your thumbs.
If we put less importance on games, others will put let importance on them too.聽 I'm not saying to stop playing them, I love them and want them to be here forever, but just see them as temporary entertainment and not something to find a new life in.聽 Make your real life good first and foremost.
I'm so sick of MMO's being blamed for making people lazy, addicted, whatever.聽 It's not the fault of the game for being fun, it's not the fault of the twinkie for tasting good, it's not my fault that I'm beautiful (*smirk*), we make our own choices.聽 Stop blaming MMO's, get off your butt and do something about your life, lazy people!
Well you could, but it's so much easier to just go back into your favorite game and forget about it, and you like things easy, don't you?*

** Sedentary lifestyle is a medical neologism used to denote a type of lifestyle most commonly found in modern cultures. It is characterized by sitting or remaining inactive for most of the day (for example, in an office), without any (or little) exercise. It is believed to be a factor in obesity, and, in doing so, may contribute to other diseases, such as type II diabetes, heart disease, depression and even hemorrhoids. Lack of exercise causes muscle atrophy, shrinking and weakening of muscles, which in turn increases susceptibility to injury. Physical fitness is correlated with immune system function, and a reduction in physical fitness is generally accompanied by a weakening of the immune system.
The term sedentary in biology applies to organisms and species that are not migratory but rather remain at a single location (permanently fixed or otherwise). Examples in zoology include such sessile organisms as barnacles, corals and mussels.
