Both World of Warcraft and Age of Conan have announced imminent plans to open shop in Russia. Age of Conan announced that they will ship and support their game in conjunction with 1C Company (who is the marketing genius there?) and will roll out AoC in the fourth quarter of 2008. Age of Conan has launched and topped the charts in more than 17 countries including Russia, Ukraine and Belarus, but they realize localization is a key ingredient to increase and maintain its customer base. Not to be outdone, World of Warcraft will start its servers in Russia next week (August 6th). Those playing on European accounts will have the option of playing on the new Russian servers including a free transfer. For more information, become fluent in Russian and then peruse the World of Wacraft Russian website. And for information on the Age of Conan release in Russia, you can read the English version at Funcom's website.

When you play a Massive game, are you escaping the real world? what you guys are playing mmorpgs for ? do you wanna escape the real world or do you just want to try another live style opposite to your real life ? or you just want to kill the free time cos u dun not how to waste ?LOL All the above similar questions asked by well-known Virtual Worlds researcher Edward Castronova in his new book Exodus to the Virtual World: How Online Fun is Chaning Reality. "What I tried to do in this book is say, 'listen - even if the typical reader doesn't spend any time in virtual worlds, what is going to be the impact on him of people going and doing this?'" And he predicted that everyone will be involved in a virtual environment within ten years - although the level of that involvement will vary. "A father of two spending 90 hours a week in a virtual world because he doesn't like his wife - I would say that's escapism, and it isn't anything you would say is good. "But if it's a heavy-set girl from a small town who gets victimised just because her body isn't the 'right' kind of body, and she goes online to make friends because she can't get a fair shake in the real world, then I w

Recently Ign has released its Top 100 Games of All Time for 2007 . i have browse all the game listed in this Top 100 Games, and to my surprise d it seems that only one mmorpg made the cut - World of Warcraft WOW came in at a dismal rank 83 --! and there is not any other mmorpgs in the list .no Ultima Online ,Ever Quest,GuildWars,no Lineage II,no nothing. IGN Editor : Our criteria for creating this list of our picks for the Top 100 Games of All Time are as follows: - Eligible games had to have been released no later than December 31, 2006 (perspective is a good thing)
- A number of factors were taken into consideration when selecting a winner: How good the game was compared to others of its time, its overall game design, how well it stands up over the years, how influential it has been in the realm of gaming and just plain how much fun we had playing it are all points for contention.
- The list is comprised of single, stand-alone titles and doesn't include compilations, expansion packs or add-ons.
- Titles with multiple editions such as collector's boxes, gold editions or direct re-releases have been consolidated into one single entry, with the edition deemed most deserving taking precedence.

Executive vice-president of product development Frank Pearce talks WoW 2, StarCraft 2 and Diablo 3. Blizzard is sitting pretty at the moment. Having just announced that the world's most popular MMO, World of Warcraft, has got even more popular, with an astonishing 9.3m subscriptions across the world, the US developer can afford to employ its famous mantra "it will be ready when it's ready" whenever it's asked about games in development. And clearly its legion of fans wouldn't want it any other way. We here at VideoGamer.com thought we'd try anyway when we sat down for a chat with executive vice-president of product development Frank Pearce to talk World of Warcraft 2, StarCraft 2 and the mystery surrounding StarCraft: Ghost. VideoGamer.com: Let's start with World of Warcraft. How's development on Wrath of the Lich King coming along? What excites you most about it and what has been the most challenging aspect of its development? Frank Pearce: The most exciting aspect of Wrath of the Lich King for me, and I think for most of the team, was announcing it at BlizzCon earlier this year and seeing the reaction from the players. Being able to give the community hands-on time with a

Today Blizzard announced a new premium service to allow users to change their characters' names:
"We’re happy to announce that through the wonders of modern gnomish engineering, you are now able to change your characters’ names. Finally, you can turn the moniker that seemed like a good idea at the time into something more befitting your true standing in World of Warcraft. Visit Account Management ( https://www.worldofwarcraft.com/account/ ) to begin the paid character-name-change process. The fee is $ 10 per name change. As with our recent addition of voice chat to the game, this feature is being rolled out across all realms in several phases."

The9 - the Chinese company that runs World of Warcraft on the Mainland - has purchased an over 50% stake in MSN China (which was originally launched as a 50-50 joint venture between Microsoft and Shanghai Alliance Investment, an attempt to get around government regulations). Despite having WoW in their stable, The9 lags behind Shanda and two other companies for market share; the acquisition of MSN China, plus the deal made earlier this year in regards to an active role for development on the 360 and XBLA could change that. "The purchase of MSN China's stake is part of The9's strategic layout. It is aimed at to build up a cross-business platform just like the one of Tecent Group, which is covering instant messaging, cyber game, online communities, and online auction," says spokesperson of The9.
Besides new deal, in March this year, The9 also joined hands with Microsoft on XBOX 360. However, the two parties did disclose the detail about the cooperation.
Insiders close to the company say that their cooperation focuses on the software platform of XBOX online games. For this purpose, The9 has founded a special video game department.

One of the relatively newer genres in the gaming industry is the MMORPG. It's advent goes back to as far as the 1990s when games such as Ultima Online and EverQuest popularized the concept of an online gaming community where people can band together and bash random critters for experience and gold.
One of the most popular MMORPGs to date is Blizzard's phenomenal World of Warcraft, which has a subscriber count of at least 8.5 million worldwide. However, it owes a lot of its existence to its proverbial forefathers. Conditions back then were considerably different for such a budding game genre to grow.
In 1999, Ubisoft introduced EverQuest to the German market. A lot of hindrances such as the limitations of technology, as well as the relatively high costs of online fees made its rise to popularity quite slow compared to today's standards. Peaking at 500,000 subscribers, many consider EverQuest as the one which paved the way for the MMORPG genre to take flight.
Karsten Lehmann, a spokesman for Ubisoft, relates their past difficulties: "It's hard for players today who are accustomed to the idea of flat rate Internet access to remember how complicated this kind of stuff was at the time".

Over at game metrics blog We Can Fix That With Data, Sara Jensen has been doing some fascinating World Of Warcraft balance analysis, examining which player classes have been fixed, buffed, nerfed, and various other odd MMO-specific titles. But how can you begin to ennumerate the changes? As Jensen, who works at Spacetime Studios for her dayjob, explains, a particularly data-hungry World Of Warcraft forum-goers has "...listed every class change made since the beginning of recorded history (i.e. early beta), and he’s categorized it by buffs, nerfs, bug fixes, changes, new features, and overhauls." Jensen has crunched that all into a very interesting set of graphs, showing that, for example, the Warlock has the most changes, but the Druid has been buffed the most in Blizzard's gameplay tweaking. In comments, 'Scott' provides some useful color: "So, the biggest problem is that there’s no relative weight to the buffs/nerfs, so the nerf to Dire Bear armor in 2.0 is assigned the same weight as no longer being able to teleport to Moonglade while in tree form. Of course then you start having to assign subjective weight", adding: "The real interesting data points you’re missing are of course
