0 Digg it    Codemasters Online to Develop MMOs in-House in Future

Codemasters Online, who helped to develop such titles as Lord of the Rings Online, and Jumpgate: Evolution, have announced that they will make their own titles from now on.

According to vice president David Solari, Codemasters will focus on producing its own titles in future. "We always had a five year plan and it was always in the middle of that five year plan that we would start developing our own games," he stated. "We are looking at that and we have to think very carefully about what title is right, what will work in the future. These aren't easy questions to answer and it's very easy to fail in the MMO market so you've got to take your time, be careful and be sensible."

RF Online team has implemented a new IP blocking system for their continuing fight against abuse and spam .

As part of our on-going commitment to protecting legitimate players, we have now implemented an IP blocking system that prevents players from territories that are not supported by Codemasters from accessing the RF Online and ArchLord games.
Whilst this implementation shouldn't affect bona fide players, there is a small chance that some will be blocked. If you believe you have been blocked in error, please fill out an appeal via our online form at this URL:

The countries/territories that are not supported and hence affected are: Brunei, Cambodia, Canada, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Myanmar, Pakistan, Philippines, Republic of Korea, Republic of Lao, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam.

0 Digg it    Charting World Of Warcraft\'s Balance Changes
  Views: 339  |  Category : Default |  Post time : Sep 21, 2007    Comments: 0  |  Bookmark
Over at game metrics blog We Can Fix That With Data, Sara Jensen has been doing some fascinating World Of Warcraft balance analysis, examining which player classes have been fixed, buffed, nerfed, and various other odd MMO-specific titles.

But how can you begin to ennumerate the changes? As Jensen, who works at Spacetime Studios for her dayjob, explains, a particularly data-hungry World Of Warcraft forum-goers has "...listed every class change made since the beginning of recorded history (i.e. early beta), and he’s categorized it by buffs, nerfs, bug fixes, changes, new features, and overhauls." Jensen has crunched that all into a very interesting set of graphs, showing that, for example, the Warlock has the most changes, but the Druid has been buffed the most in Blizzard's gameplay tweaking.

In comments, 'Scott' provides some useful color: "So, the biggest problem is that there’s no relative weight to the buffs/nerfs, so the nerf to Dire Bear armor in 2.0 is assigned the same weight as no longer being able to teleport to Moonglade while in tree form. Of course then you start having to assign subjective weight", adding: "The real interesting data points you’re missing are of course

0 Digg it    Perfect World Formally Announces \'Red Cliff\' MMORPG
  Views: 13  |  Category : Default |  Post time : Aug 27, 2007    Comments: 0  |  Bookmark
As we mentioned last weekend, John Woo's next film 赤壁 (The Battle of Red Cliff) is getting the MMORPG treatment courtesy of one of China's biggest game companies, Beijing Perfect World. And in fine Perfect World tradition, they've presented us with an almost unintelligible press release telling us so! The game will be released ahead of the film and is scheduled to launch later this year (the film won't be arriving until 2008). Full release after the jump.
The War of the Red Cliff' Breaks the Traditional Game Model

BEIJING, Aug. 23 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/-- Beijing Perfect World Technology Co., Ltd. announces that their new game, ''The War of the Red Cliff'' will break the traditional computer gaming concept. This game is nostalgic for many gamers who grew up playing ''3 Kingdoms 2 -- The War of the Red Cliff," but rest assured that this new game does not conform to the traditional mould of games.

Beijing Perfect World will release "The War of the Red Cliff" in the fourth quarter of 2007. This game is sure to bring excitement to gamers. The game's eighteen characters each posses a unique weapon, which players can enhance the use of throughout the game. A great deal of fanatic

Beijing Perfect World, the developer and publisher of several big-name Chinese games, and China Film Group Corporation have reached an agreement that Perfect World will develop a MMORPG based on John Woo's latest film (due out next year) titled 赤壁 (The Battle of Red Cliff). Based on historical events (and included in the classic Chinese novel, Romance of the Three Kingdoms), the movie focuses on a decisive battle in 3rd century BCE China, and the MMORPG will follow the same path - while differentiating itself from all the other Romance of the Three Kingdoms-based games that came before it.

In the fourth quarter of 2007, Beijing Perfect World plans to launch the second big-scale MMORPG called "The War of the Red Cliff" which uses the self- developed new-version of the Angelica 3D game engine. Differentiated from the traditional Japanese game "Romance of the Three Kingdoms", this newly-produced game highlights the most grandiose scenery. "The War of the Red Cliff" aims to provide gamers with the reality and trueness of real battle scenes from the three kingdoms era, so players have the chance to experience a Chinese version of the pure, traditional "Romance of Three King
