  Views: 19  |  Category : Default |  Post time : Aug 28, 2008    Comments: 0  |  Bookmark

Aion: Tower of Eternity will feature a character's ability to fly, but it won't come easy. Developers have released the details of a quest string that end with flight. Check it out, along with several screens:

Thursday 28th August - Brighton, UK/... NCsoft® Europe presents details of what Asmodians must do in order to be able to fly in the epic and beautiful Massively Multiplayer Online (MMO) RPG, Aion: The Tower of Eternity. The chance to earn your wings and become a Daeva comes relatively early in the life of every true Asmodian, though the path itself can be hard and somewhat mystifying. As you reach level 9 you discover that you must find the Asmodian known as Munin, who has been detained deep within the Ishalgen Prison Camp.

Trapped within a crystallized prison cell, Munin is your key to Ascension. This Daeva can discern the future, even trapped in his cell. This expert fortuneteller will be able to tell your future and how you will ascend to be a mighty Asmodian, but first he needs items that can help piece together your past. He will need these items, the cards of fate, from three different disciples in order to proceed.

The first appears as an old tailor by the name of U

Tabula Rasa to move, Dungeon Runners to die

Rumor is going around that NCSoft is going to close its Austin game development studio and lay off all staff there. Tabula Rasa is said to be handed over to Seattle-based Arena.net (Guild Wars) and Dungeon Runners apparently just couldn't run fast enough. This comes as a bit of a surprise overall, because Tabula Rasa got a mention in the Q2 reports - something generally considered a good sign.

Future development of Tabula Rasa will reportedly be handed over to Seattle-based Guild Wars creator Arena.net, with Massively reporting that the title may meet a similar fate as Dungeon Runners if it "fails to turn the tide of subscribers and expectations." It has also learned that any future collaboration between NCsoft and Tabula Rasa principals Richard and Robert Garriot will be "limited in scope," due to a souring of relations with the Korean management team over their title's lackluster performance.

With regard to City of Heroes, a source at NCsoft's Bay Area studio confirmed with us that its development staff will be completely unaffected by the events transpiring in Austin, saying that the title's status is "sound.&

0 Digg it    Ubisoft Accounces Tom Clancy MMO
  Views: 204  |  Category : Default |  Post time : Mar 27, 2008    Comments: 2  |  Bookmark

Ubisoft acquired full rights to the Tom Clancy name a few days ago for a reported 90 million dollars and has now announced a Tom Clancy MMO.Development on this new project has not yet started, but speculation is already putting the budget for this game at around 50 million.

It truly seems that the MMO rush is on and everyone wants a piece of the action. No doubt a Tom Clancy MMO would be a FPS, although I don’t know how you can take a spy/swat type gameplay and turn it into a MMO. How does that work? 50 spies all trying to steal the same suitcase? No, most likely it would follow in the footsteps of The Agency, which Sony is working on. You would create your team and signup for missions that are instanced.

0 Digg it    Robert Garriott reviews the year 2007 for Ncsoft

Robert Garriott --- President of NCsoft® North America

As 2007 comes to a close, I think its well worth discussing what a great year it has been for the company, and using that success as a platform for 2008 and beyond. We’ve had many exciting things happen this year, with much of it providing building blocks for even better years ahead of us.

First of course is the release of Richard Garriott’s Tabula Rasa in November, which is a big event in the history of this company and the fruit of much labor by many current and former employees worldwide...

Also in November we had even more exciting news. We absolutely love City of Heroes and we really wanted greatly to re-invest in the franchise; the question was how to do it in the best way possible...

In August we released Eye of the North, an expansion pack for the extremely popular Guild Wars franchise. Eye of the North was a bit different from our previous Guild Wars releases in that it wasn’t a standalone product; you had to own one of the three Guild Wars titles (Prophecies, Factions, or Nightfall) in order to play,

The future is looking great for NCsoft North America. I’ve mentioned quite a few plans we have for 2008, and in addition we

0 Digg it    Square's New MMO Not Necessarily Final Fantasy
  Views: 81  |  Category : Default |  Post time : Nov 29, 2007    Comments: 0  |  Bookmark

Could be a direct sequel or something new entirely.

We haven't heard very much about what Square Enix his planned in the online space after Final Fantasy XI, an MMO that's still going strong (read: Wings of the Goddess expansion pack), but the company has admitted they're actively working on a next-generation MMO. Thing is, speaking to Gamasutra, FFXI Producer Hiromichi Tanaka says it's not necessarily going to be Final Fantasy-branded.
"As you might already know, members from the current FFXI team are working on a next generation MMO, but it still hasn't been decided whether that's going to be a game in the FF series, a continuation, or a totally new game," said Tanaka. "We are working on it, but it hasn't been decided that far yet."

With Final Fantasy XI still a popular MMO among the hardcore, it's not surprising Square Enix would be interested in continuing that franchise with additional expansion packs in the years to come, while simultaneously nurturing a brand-new IP with the upcoming MMO.
