EA boss John Riccitiello has finally confirmed that a Knights of the Old Republic MMO is in development at BioWare. "We've got two of the most compelling MMOs in the industry in development," Riccitiello told Portfolio at E3. "The first title, based on the Warhammer property, will launch soon. "And the one that people are dying for us to talk to them about - in partnership with LucasArts, coming out of BioWare, which is, I think, quite possibly the most anticipated game, full stop, for the industry, is at the point where we get closer to telling you about it." When asked directly if this was the Knights of the Old Republic MMO, Riccitiello said "yes" . Codemasters Online, who helped to develop such titles as Lord of the Rings Online, and Jumpgate: Evolution, have announced that they will make their own titles from now on. According to vice president David Solari, Codemasters will focus on producing its own titles in future. "We always had a five year plan and it was always in the middle of that five year plan that we would start developing our own games," he stated. "We are looking at that and we have to think very carefully about what title is right, what will work in the future. Massively reports that the Sims Online was shut down and is now known as EA-Land. The Sims might have been a huge hit with casual gamers worldwide. The virtual world built on the same property, The Sims Online, was unfortunately rather less so. Last year, three employees led by Luc Barthelet convinced EA that the whole TSO concept could be revitalized under a new platform and model. Development ensued, apace until on Thursday, February 21 the last of The Sims Online cities shut down, and were bundled off. Say hello to EA-Land. It appears that some or all of the downed cities have been merged into the new EA-Land mixed-pay model. EA-Land is apparently following a model more like that of Second Life, with free players and paying subscribers, a planned currency exchange for Simoleons (TSO's world currency, and now EA-Land's), multiple avatars per account, custom content uploads, user-run stores, and web-services integration, facebook apps. Book 11 of the Lord of the Rings Online is nearly here and there are some exciting new additions and enhancements in the game, which can all be found in the release notes. Book 11: Defenders of Eriador will be released on October 24 for the US and on October 25 for Europe.
There are some highlights of Defenders of Eriador you have to watch out for. First, you can own your own house now, where you can pick from up to 250 neighborhoods and style it with over 200 different decorations. New upgrades and tweaks have also been introduced to the Lore-master and Minstrel classes.
Another is the introduction of the Rift, a cavern beneath an ancient city. Up to 12 players can explore its depths. Primotech has reported that inside sources have confirmed that the unnamed Bioware MMO will indeed by based on their hit title, Knights of The Old Republic. A source close to BioWare confirmed to us today that the studio's upcoming untitled massively-multiplayer online RPG will be centered around the Star Wars universe, specifically that of Knights of the Old Republic, which the developer released in 2003. The game garnered critical acclaim and spawned a less-popular sequel, released by Obsidian two years later.
The game is being developed by the company's Austin studio, formed in 2006 and headed by BioWare Creative Director James Ohlen, whose past credits include the first KOTOR, Neverwinter Nights, and Baldur Gate's I and II.

Spellborn NV Community Manager Pierre-Yves Deslandes (aka Mirage) for the upcoming title The Chronicles of Spellborn posted an article over at the MMO game's official website addressing the fans regarding delays and in-game developments.
First off, Deslandes confirmed that the new release window for Spellborn is now slated for a Q1 2008 release. The community manager also added that their game publisher, Frogster Interactive, has just signed a deal that will bring The Chronicles of Spellborn in Japan.
This is certainly good news as this ushers in more gamers with different playing styles compared to those in the West. Anyway, Deslandes shared that the game recently underwent a series of internal stress tests to check if it will have any lags or server crashed during the times when so much players populate a specific region. The official said:
We simulated more than 500 players in real gaming conditions in one single zone (Hawk's Landing/Hawksmouth) without any crashes or other downtime. This might not look so extraordinary at first glance, but trust me, for a game with heavy action-based combat and such AI; this is one heck of a feat for an MMO.

The9 - the Chinese company that runs World of Warcraft on the Mainland - has purchased an over 50% stake in MSN China (which was originally launched as a 50-50 joint venture between Microsoft and Shanghai Alliance Investment, an attempt to get around government regulations). Despite having WoW in their stable, The9 lags behind Shanda and two other companies for market share; the acquisition of MSN China, plus the deal made earlier this year in regards to an active role for development on the 360 and XBLA could change that. "The purchase of MSN China's stake is part of The9's strategic layout. It is aimed at to build up a cross-business platform just like the one of Tecent Group, which is covering instant messaging, cyber game, online communities, and online auction," says spokesperson of The9.
Besides new deal, in March this year, The9 also joined hands with Microsoft on XBOX 360. However, the two parties did disclose the detail about the cooperation.
Insiders close to the company say that their cooperation focuses on the software platform of XBOX online games. For this purpose, The9 has founded a special video game department.
