  Views: 24  |  Category : Default |  Post time : Aug 07, 2007    Comments: 0  |  Bookmark
Blizzard and its filmic partner Legendary Pictures today revealed a few more details of their upcoming live-action movie based on the Warcraft franchise.

Legendary Pictures' Thomas Tull described the movie as "big," with a budget of over by Nick Breckon00 million. "We're not gonna make some cheesy little.. I don't even know what a good example is," he said. Shouts of "Doom" erupted from the crowd. "I'm not gonna give any examples," Tull said after a laugh.

"We're shooting for 2009," Tull added, before handing the stage over to Blizzard creative director Chris Metzen, who immediately began to outline the direction of the project.

"Honestly, the story that we're running with at this point, we wanted it to be relevant to the experience of WoW players," Metzen said. "Not necessarily buried in thousands of years of continuity. We wanted it to be, well, recent. The story takes place about a year before WoW begins. You're likely to see a lot of races you've played, the lands you know. The story really is a number of main plot points kind of rolled into a really strong two, two and a half hour tale."

In terms of specifics, Metzen revealed that there will be a new central hero character, th

0 Digg it    Halo 3: Four Player Co-op Confirmed

Here’s an extended excerpt from the latest Bungie update, The Truth About Co-Op in Halo 3:

It’s time for us to sack up and tell you what’s what regarding online co-op.

So you were probably wondering why we didn’t want to commit to two player co-op online over Xbox Live. We certainly got plenty of mail asking, no, demanding that we make it happen. Of course we were working on it, but we were also working on something better. Not two player co-op. Not three-player co-op, but up to four player co-op. Online. On Xbox Live, or sure, System Link if you prefer.

That is correct – up to four player co-op in Campaign mode on Xbox Live or System Link.

We’ve been playing it for quite some time, and bluntly, having some of our greatest ever Halo experiences. We wanted to make sure all our “t”s were crossed and our “i”s dotted before unveiling this important new part of Halo 3’s Campaign mode.

Apart from the horrifying network challenges this new mode presented us, were the various gameplay balance issues it adds to the fray. So we got it all together, polished it, and that’s why we’re revealing it now. As a result, you’re going to want to play co-op as hard as you can stomach it. We’d certainly reco

0 Digg it    Analyst: Casual gaming ready to explode
  Views: 8  |  Category : Default |  Post time : Aug 01, 2007    Comments: 0  |  Bookmark
Casual gaming has arrived in the US, and is set to double its domestic revenues in just two years, according to a new industry overview from Pacific Crest Securities analyst Evan Wilson. In a 34-page recap of the casual gaming industry released today, Wilson estimates that the US casual business will hit $725 million in 2008, up from a 2006 total of $375 million.

"We expect casual games to be the primary industry growth driver for 2008 and beyond," Wilson wrote, "as well as the best source of [mergers and acquisitions] and [initial public offering] activity and all-around favorite buzzword."

Wilson said the developing field of casual games is pushing the industry forward, helping the business overcome a number of different factors holding it back.

"Gamers are frustrated about slow innovation and the prevalence of sequels in the traditional console game industry, while nongamers are increasingly excluded by the increasing difficulty of games," Wilson notes.

In addition to fostering new business models like digital distribution, ad-supported gaming, and pay-per-item microtransactions, casual games have lower development costs and leave room for experimentation with new gameplay mechanics
