1 Digg it    Korea is no longer the prior testing spot of MMORPGs

It's said that "If the game runs well in Korea, then it'll be popular in the whole world " once upon a time. Many MMORPGs choose Korea as the first testing spot several years ago. Because MMORPG industry is mature there, and many ppl are MMORPG fans. So it's easier to get enough and good gamers to test the game out.

But things have been changed nowadays. Korea is no longer the prior testing spot of MMORPGs. Many developers choose North America first. For example, NCSOFT's "Tabula Rasa" goes commercial in NA and EU. But in Korea, just a plan to release the game yet, even a rumor says that Garriot wouldn't like to publish it in Korea. The same as "Hellgate: London" which was first released in NA on Oct. 31th.

How did this happen? Does it mean Korean MMORPGs market is a chaos. Who knows?

i understand the grind factor for free games - after all developers are bored creating some extraodinare for free. but grinding in game where you must pay to obtain... sucks...
so, now, perhaps, we are one step closer to games with less grind? it is common knowledge the war Blizzard has declared on gold farmers... but thats only because WoW depends on gold from players to survive.
Now i think a new era comes. Lets see how Tabula Rasa will go, or Conan, or some new hot title... in the next 6-10 months we will have a better view on this.
meanwhile... keep your eyes open and be on alert. Most jewels games come from minor publishers who set new standards (in an atempt to gain a market share on mmo community)

well i think the problem is that koreans love grinding games, and you know for the rest of the world its not a lot of fun, so maybe developers are trying to make games more fun now, who knows.

i think they try to avoid major hacks/exploits/gold farmers till each game develops a steady community for support.
Korea was the playground for testing new mmos, but is also the country with the most hacks/exploits/gold farmers around (there isnt any game that korean hackers havent hacked to unknown depths).
