Did playing MMO actually slowing down our reaction?

I was thinking this for few days...have u ever realize that playing mmo may be slowing down our reaction? becoz inside the game there may be alot of things, but in real life we actually just sit there using only our finger to press button and mouse click...

Years ago I was playing console game like playstation or sega. They are games, but I didnt find out that playing them will slowing down my reaction, instead my reaction is getting faster and sensitive. The type of game that I played mostly shooting game, aircraft shooting, puzzle adventure and action. I remember once there is a ball accidentally thrown by a boy towards me, but I can react very fast by avoiding the ball hitting my face, that I think was the result of kept playing shooting game and I find out that I can easily solve any complicate matter easily because I know how to find the clue and spot, which I think also a result of kept playing puzzle adventure game.

Things change, now we have new toy in our hand, that is MMO. I been attracted by MMO since 2002, that time the first MMO I played was Ragnarok Online, a very popular cute graphic game which still popular until now. Its totally different than console that characters can grow and I can meet the real person in game worldwide, it has society interacting with people which console never can do. So MMO rise, and console starts to sink...

But for years I have been drowning myself in MMO, but I still can never be long time to play MMO, is because I cannot stay sitting there for day just point and click, I feel like my wholebody was aching, my eyes spinning and my arm is cramping, so I will logout and walk around, after that sit back and grind again. So keep on like that I never realize that actually Im not doing any exercise and just sit there for wholeday!

So what is the result? Well I can say now I become so lazy to move, my eyes react slow that even a fly pass through in front of me I didnt notice, Im not solving any complicating matter easy but instead even making it worst...What happen to me?

Im not saying console better or mmo better whatever, but Im trying to say is MMO is getting pointless nowadays, they didnt do any breakthrough but instead improving their grinding become more powerful grinding. Im not trying to stop any people to play MMO as I was one of them, but I hope that people can start to think out some new MMO which can benefit people's reaction instead making them sitting wholeday getting fat.

You know in my one year of sitting and playing games and watching anime a lot (usually the whole day) , MMO and the like, I've never gained or lost any weight o.o; Although I'm still 90kg (200ilbs) so it's not really something to be proud of but I haven't gained any weight since 2 years ago o.o; As for MMOs well, I suppose it depends, some people have different playing styles, personally I've been playing PSU (Phantasy Star Universe) lately as I get bored of click-and-play easily, rather play action arcade type games, although I kinda wish they would make a medieval type fantasy game on a similar gameplay engine but with more reaction based controls such as quick dodging of sorts and parries, that goes without saying with the use of the controller, lol.

When I play MMO's, I'm frantically hitting all over the keyboard, having to pay attention to every little thing around me so that I do stuff right and don't die. I have way more action than a simple joystick can have on it.

Consoles also haven't been replaced, they are more popular than ever.

I'd guess that you just become more lazy as you got older, it's not the MMO's fault. I play MMO's all the time, and I'm not at all lazy, I'm very active and notice every little thing around me. My body doesn't ache from sitting there all day, I get up and do other stuff, it doesn't have to be a lifestyle unless you personally choose to do that. You can't blame the MMO for how you choose to act as you get older and lazier. It's your choice, the MMO is just brief entertainment, it's not supposed to be your entire life.

your maybe right... but I dont think so... I know that we dont move alot but hey nothing is perfect.(exept perfect world) lol ^^ you can meat new people and do a boss mission that keeps awake and moving like guild wars! I think that the parents says" it's slowing you and make you fat" is just to get us out of the computer.... Plus if you dont have alot of friends in your school you can meat new people in MMO that us keeps normal and not sad its true that some of MMo is BAD but There is ALOT of GOOD and FUN and no 1 can take it away from MMO.by the way you can always run in school or go to gym or have a karata lesson haa ya...LOL (your life doesn't need to be on a run!)

I suppose it will have to depend on what kind of MMO you play. I would recommend Warcraft III's battlenet, be it DotA or the original. Even if it isn't MMO, it's still online, in DotA every second counts, therefore quick reaction and thinking is needed, in the original game of Warcraft III, quick reaction and thinking is needed also, as well as strategic plannings.

Most MMORPGs are grind and that's why you will find yourself not actually using any effort to play because there isn't a need to think much, just clicking on the monster and attacking it.

If you find MMOs affecting you, try out RTS games once in awhile, juggle between different kinds of games and it will be fine.

MMORPG is best for business-minded peoples. For me, I hate MMORPG. Peoples always show off their level and money but they got no skill. I told some MMORPG players, they went madness and try to kill me in pk mode. xD Their mood look scary.

It's not MMO slow us down. It's MMORPG that slow us down. MMORPG mostly use brain power than any skill. Look at the MMORPG, most of them are just click to run, click to attack. Everything one-click done, that's what slow down our reaction. MMOFPS is out of the our point because they aren't just one-click done.

The Nintendo Wii is doing a heck of a job with our "animal reactions". I would for the Wii Sportsâ„¢ Boxing to be more "realistic" with a closer perspective, but other than that, it's quite a good console.

layce, i know u want sth like skill dat need using reaction add in mmo.
but mmo mostly is for causal play, player dont need to use brain too much and get fun,
thats things mmo diff from consle game.
shooting game has its kind of fun, rpg has its kind of fun.
i think every mmo has its fun part, just about where u think it is.
i find that part, i stay.

i suggest not to addict so much,
1 to 2 hours is enough, long play just make self bored.
i often do stretch on neck, shoulder, arm, wrist, finger, backbone, kneel, feet and rest eyes. few move enough. -.-
grinding is a problem, how to sovle it, huh ?
