Funcom officially confirmed that the DirectX 10 version of the company's MMORPG Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures won't ship during the initial launch. The launch takes place this week (starting tomorrow, to be exact - with the European launch following on May 23).
Apparently they need more time to add extra features. Here's the word: "While Funcom is thrilled with the early success of Age of Conan, and proud of the game launching this week, the company regrets to inform gamers that the DirectX 10 version of the game will not ship with the initial launch. As Microsoft’s DirectX 10 is undoubtedly the future of PC gaming, Funcom has decided to ship only the DirectX 9 version at launch, giving the team more time to focus on building a DirectX 10 version worthy of Microsoft’s great vision for the future of PC gaming. This postponement will let Funcom include even more features in the DirectX 10 version of Age of Conan than originally planned." Nintendo’s exciting WiiWare service has launched in Europe, following the service going live in Japan and North America. The WiiWare service is a lot like Xbox Live Arcade, allowing developers to create Wii games that are smaller in scope and much more accessible for gamers; they are cheaper, too.
As with full-fledged Wii games, titles on WiiWare can make use of the Wii Remote and Nunchuk as well as other system resources, allowing for the trademark motion-sensitive Wii gaming. Laurent Fischer, Managing Director of Marketing & PR of Nintendo of Europe comments, “We are excited by the positive response we have received from third party developers to the announcement of WiiWare. We hope that this opportunity and the inspiration to produce original and exciting games will allow developers of all sizes to bring new concepts, genres and game play experiences to Wii. Opening this creative door will also provide Wii users access to a huge choice of games that they can easily download and enjoy.” Europeans will be able to download most games from the Wii Shop Channel for 500 Wii points.
