Gamers Bill of Rights

Category: Default Game: Default Posted on Oct 16, 2008 2:44 pm

In my random day dream. I had an idea that was based on the ideas that america is supposed to be based on. I think we can alll agree that within MMORPG's even though the genres may differ, the content will vary, and our objectives are not all the same, those free flowing worlds built on code are where we all reside. I may spend more time within an MMO than I spend outside, this may not necessarily be a positive thing but people some people do. Now those people need to have a strong administrative oversight that produces new content and keeps the game functional fun and expanding. The people who rule these are the developers, Admins, GM's, all your local game governmnent. They are here to protect us from Anarchy but what exactly is in place to protect us from tyranny? Would it be too progressive to think that there can be a standard set of values that different developers, may one day all adopt that has provisions to both protect the gamer from Anarchy and Tyranny? I am suggesting to add a tab guareenteeing a gamers Bill of RIghts. 10 core principles that cannot be taken away from that gamer by anyone not admin and not other gamers.

The first provison would have freedom of the speech, press and protection from un warranted character deletion. People found guilty of repeated Flaming, Slander or Libel will be punished accordingly either facing some sort of fine or lockput from the game but in general the public may speak however they like no matter how annoying or profound. Still under no grounds except from breaking the agreed upon terms of agreement will a character be deleted

Second provision is the right to both bare powerful guilds but the protection from in game monopolies, giving gamers a diversity in market

The third provision does not allow the GM's to unfairly aid any character or group to gain power economically or physically. They can not also claim any of your items or property unfairly

The fourth provision would protect you from punishment of unreasonable acquisation and seizure of items due to such alligations

The fifth provision provides you the right to a fair hearing to discuss any problems that arise and allow you to defend

The sixth provision allows for public display of the hearing and input of a group of gaming peers.

the seventh is what I like to call the second chance clause everyone gets one

The eigth provision stops the game adminstrators from placing you in the arena and making you PVP for your freedom or create some unsurmountable odds for you to overcome in order to get off the hook

The ninth provision is the protection of the rights that arent necessarily stated in this gamers bill of rights

The tenth gives power to the Gamers to set reasonable punishments for certain offenses and the adminstrators the right to execute

There we go I think this is a draft of a historical document waiting to happen!

Haha, good stuff. While I personally can't agree (I'm not American and as such frown upon the american legal system - although I do find it amusing :P) I can see where your going with it. In the end though - we don't have rights in an MMO - because it is owned by someone else. On earth we have rights as there is no owner - noone to have the final say. However, in a game such as WoW - what Blizz says goes, and if you dont like it, you dont play.

Godd concept lol - doubtful on an outcome though. :)
