0 Digg it    How classes in games can reflect our personalities(or can they?)

It's a question I found myself asking recently just sitting and thinking as I tend to do at times. When we play mmorpg's or any game really the style of character we use: do they reflect anything about our personalities?

For example when you pick something like say a warrior is it simply because you find that class to be cool, you like their skills, and equips, or hope for such a good outcome on the equips, and skills? Could it be more? Is there something within your mind that draws you to that particular class other then thinking they are cool. I.e. Do you feel that you have some sort of connection with that particular class? It's a tough question to answer after all I can not answer this for everyone considering everyone is different. This is sort of like an open debate.

Some might say that this is a silly question to pose, but honestly when you choose your character is there a greater reason then thinking they are the best choice for the game for leveling and such? When you pick something like a warrior is it because deep down you wish to protect someone dear to you and have not told them, or have told them and this is a way to express it(if they play along with you.) When you select something like a Priest does the idea of being a holy avenger or a holy fighter for a just cause relate to you in some way? Is it because you yourself are religous at all or no? In some cases I have come to find that people just pick Priests and the like for the healing affect not really giving it much thought.(in some cases the people playing Priest have no religion at all)

But that is exactly the point! Without giving it thought does one feel a certain connection to that class. Rogues for example are meant to be theifs although in most games that I have played they only have skills to steal from monsters. Does one have the desire to live that fast paced life of taking something very priceless and getting away with it. Loving being out on the run and all the likely  hood of it? An outcast of society and taking that as a compliment? There are so many elements to this it can become very confusing.

Mages, since we are on the topics of elements. Do you feel a strange connection with the earth or an element of your liking? Then find that through the Mage class you are simply doing what you find to be natural? It would appear to be a good reason.

Then again there are other ways that one can feel a connection to a certain job or class in an MMO or other type of game that I have not listed. After all as I said earlier it's more of a personal thing, but it was just something on my mind.

Do we all have some psychological connection to the people we decide to be in the games we play? It really is a thinker, then again some may just say this is gibberish and disregard it. By all means go ahead, but it is something as I said that has come to my mind recently. To be honest I have figured out that in some games with certain classes I do feel a strange connection to them, but would rather keep it to myself instead of looking weird. Well it's out there now XP

Still I submit to you the truth as I have found it: that most people in fact feel a connection to the character they play, or maybe even see it as a new life of their on through this fantasy world.

Once again these are just my thoughts.

For me, the main factor that makes me to choose a class is not because my personality, is because of its uniqueness and appearance, skillplay and the mood of that time. But I wont deny that personality really makes people choose wat they want, as if a people that likes fighting frontline action will choose swordie or warrior, and if a people that likes stand aside taking advantage of high power killing then he will choose mage, or if people that dont like magic but still likes taking advantage of far attack then may be he choose archer, or people that likes both magic and fighting action may choose paladin etc. So I think personality may not be the primary factor to choose a class, but a class may still can reflect a big part of our personality.
