Respect me or die (a tribute to healers everywhere)

In every game that you play no matter what it is there is always a class that has the ability to keep you alive. Though it is not the class I pick ever because it is just not my personal style it is one that should have the most respect. Tankers can get in front of people and keep them from being hurt, but healers, or clerics as they are more commonly called amongst the gaming community are the ones that can literally keep you alive or bring you back to life. To be honest they can tell you "Respect me or die" however that would be taking it a bit too far.

The truth of the matter is that some Clerics do abuse their power and will frequently act like snobs in the gaming world, but those are very far few and in between. Typically you have the Clerics that are good at their jobs, and those that are not. Then no matter what when you are in a party with a Cleric unless everyone is on good terms and knows each other I.E. are friends there will always be that guy or girl demanding a heal. Now many of you may say that you demand it because you need it right at that moment. Calm down and allow the healer to do their job.

What I mean by that is simply this. When you demand a heal from a Cleric it appears as though you are using them as your personal maid service. A good Cleric looks out for their party and wont let anyone fall on the weigh side(meaning die) if they do simply allow a party member to die you are dealing with either a snob-ish Cleric or one that is not good at their job. Now typically the ones that are not good at what they do are new to the game so spare them a little time and lets try not to be harsh on them. This provides a welcoming community that allows them to better improve their abilities. Once this happens the longer they play the better they become. On the other hand if they are just horrible healers maybe trying to help them out through their bad times would be better than calling them useless or something along those lines.

See every Cleric other then the lazy or snob-ish ones deserve respect in some fashion, because as the actual character goes one has to imagine just how hard that is to level. They don't have a high attack power at all, and most of their skills are in healing and not attacking. So to consistently have to fight mobs for experience is a lot harder on a Cleric than it is on most classes. So from the start if they don't have an over inflated ego and shun others they should be respected as well.

Now we have to talk about those doom Clerics. Lets cut to the point about this one. There are those who are just plain out mean or asses as the lingo goes. These Clerics care less about others in the party and more about their own life. They are easily shown as the ones that bulk up on self healing skills. They are the ones you want to completely avoid, but unfortunately short of asking how they have their skills set or if they are mean Clerics the only way to find out is by playing through a party with them for a little while. This can be a frustrating experience.

For the ability to gain more respect of this class lets go into a little back story of it.

Cleric: Typically a wizard who is talented in the ways of healing magics. Also known as a White Magician or a Holy Magician by title and nothing more.

A common misconception of this class is that they are holy warriors for the lord. Now i'm not going to step on any ones toes here about religion or anything, but to be frank that is not the actual truth behind most Clerics in the online world. In a general outlook they are as said just Magician's who know how to heal and practice white magic, and a little bit of the normal to protect their own well being.

Now to be frank it honestly depends on the story line to display what the Cleric really stands for. An example of this would be Angels online, by taking a look at the name you can easily guess what a Cleric would be: an angel...just like all the other classes.

However I would like to dispell this rumor of them being Holy warriors sent by God to avenge on his behalf and rid the world of Sinners, most of the time, that is just not the case.

A Cleric is an essential part of any party in any game as one will soon come to notice. They keep you going with your health when you do hard dungeons or just area's that are complicated and very hard to progress in. It is also a worth wil' class for most people out there so it will be no rare thing to see a bunch of these lovely Clerics running around trying to help out people. In fact I have been buffed and healed by Clerics randomly while grinding mobs. When such a case comes across please say thank you to the Cleric for they did not have to heal you.

In conclusion: Please respect your Clerics.

~Joy to you all

well, in online games we learn to be a team player...that means we have to accept each character strength and weaknesses...not all characters are perfect, that is why team work plays an important part to defeat the monster or whatever.

Enjoy the fun with team work!

Well, i believe the two hard roles in a party are the tanker and the healer roles. These two jobs have to pay the most attention, as the DPS classes mostly are just clicking on the monsters, or spamming random skills. Of course, for them, being more skilled will release more damage, but it's simply not that essential.
On the other hand, tankers have to be aware of the party, of the area the party fights at, and of every monster the party is fighting. On top of that, the meat wall has to notice every new monster spawning around, and taunt it as soon as possible.
Healers' job is to watch out for who is under attack and who is not, and heal the person who needs it the most (attacked by the most monsters). This job can be made much easier if the tanker keeps the agro properly, and simply doesn't let the other members of the party take damage.
If you're a DPS, being attacked by a monster, and not getting healed, that's probably because the healer is busy with healing the tank or himself (if the healer dies, the whole party dies), so just use up some healing item, even if they cost a little bit of money.

I tried outh both the healer and the tanker jobs, and i can say, really good tankers are just suprisingly rare (in some situations keeping full agro can require an APM enough to play starcraft, lol). Being a healer is a little bit more easier, there is one thing to mention here: in any situations, a healer must be able to hold back from chatting. It's the most annoying thing when someone dies because you typing prevented you from healing.

As for random heals / buffs off the people i'm passing by, i don't really mind if they don't thank me. But what is really annoying, when i start buffing someone, and he just ignores it and runs out of range. Rudeness on square.

I play healers very often, because I enjoy helping people.
I'm not very skilled, but I try to do my best.
Playing a healer in Lunia is really a pain...
In order to heal others they have to stay in a certain radius around you. So when my party members are down to about half of their health I think: "Okay, time to heal 'em." I launch my spell... And they run away, never mind me.
Then, few minutes later, they come running to me, with 1 HP left and a boss on their heels and shout: "HEAL!"
That's usually the point where I think: "WTF!? Shut up and die!"
And then they blame me, because my spells take to long to cast for me to save them...
Some respect would be really, really nice.

Good article, by the way^^

This might be weird but if you are a cleric - healer in game you should get a gift every week or 2 weeks or so cause your doing a great job xD there should be a Ranking for healers :P if you make it to the top 50 -100 you get a gift or so people can vote you outside but only on healers.

But tankers should get some respect to afterall they take all the damage for you and do nothing they just take damage sure they can attack but might be weak.

But still i think my idea is awesome if your a healer you can get voted by others and make it to ranking winning stuff :) all though everyone wont play healer cause of ranking system it might take weeks months before u win something :P

well i find it an irony to have jerks in a class which is often thought of as "the ultimate good" in any of the games we play

and i usually depend on potions more than the cleric to keep me alive(ive had bad experiences and live like a loner...so sue me)so i find myself sometimes plainly just plvling some low level cleric character or maybe a few levels below my own level...sounds like a pretty dumb thing to do...but as long as it doesnt make my own experience gain rate decrease...i dont mind...unless the person im unconciously plvling is a jerk like the category mentioned above then i kick him out or leave the party
