I read the news, bulletin or whatever you want to call it about 2007 being a bad year for MMO's and to be honest I was rather shocked with some of the games that were listed as a downer. The main two that made me turn my bottom lip up and say you've got to be kidding me as far as them being bad were DECO online, and AsdaStory. I completely understand that those views were simply personal oppinion, but still for them to be listed like that was rather strange in my view point so this is my ideals on the subject.

As many of you might know, or at least those who have kept up with my blogs little by little I absolutely adored DECO online and I still do to this day(though my pet is probably way passed dead <.< ) There was not one thing that I found to be upsetting about the game, the leveling was not a complete grind like most if not almost all games that came out in 2007. You know what in fact there were very few, VERY few games that came out last year that had the ability for one to ignore the grind. The only one I can think of that had this going for it was Lunia. When playing through the game you tend to forget you're trying to level unless you're obsessed with gaining that item you're onnnnneeee level away from...that gets annoying.

DECO,Asda, 2moons, Ghost online, 9Dragons, World of Kung fu, Silkroad, Rappelz(which I found to be boring as hell), Flyff(KING OF GRINDING NEXT TO MAPLE) all of them had grind that was easily noticed. Yeah I played them all and then some I would surf the site looking for games to play and new ones to try just because I wanted to play the field so to speak.

With Asda story the customizing the outfits was nice, but that's not all it had to offer. I wont start on the Soul Mate system because that gets enough hype as it is and to be honest I really did like it. The skills in the game were easily set up, the graphics were nice considering it was F2P. Moving on to make my point yes there was grind, but it was not that bad, and since Asda story was one of the most anticipated games I highly doubt it did not live up to it's hype considering what it was competing with. When I got into the closed beta and played I did not even once get upset with the OBT. I loved it to be quite frank the game was all around fun. I did not really notice the grind unless I kept getting myself killed like a dumbass which happened from time to time.

To be honest Deco and Asda mirrored one another. In my personal view point DECO was like a version of Asda where the characters just got older and got drawn into a war, depends on how you look at it. I based this of course simply on the way their characters were designed, the whole crazy looking armor and what not.

The quest system on DECO was rather nice to be honest I loved it. Instead of having to go look everywhere for your specific person that you needed to find in order to do a quest you knew where the person was and they had all your quests for a certain amount of levels. Once your power passed the monsters in that area you had to move on to another area with the same quest manager (in appearance) giving you new quests. Yes the quests cost money but not a great deal for one to complain. The monsters gave a great amount of EXP so I don't get how one can say that it was a big grind. Some quests gave 1000 exp while the monsters gave about 100 exp per kill. So it all worked itself out if you were having fun it was a pretty simple thing and easy game to play without worrying about the grind that I wont deny existed.

Sure 2007 was a bad year for MMORPG's but I present it was for a different reason. Not because most every game that came out was just horrible, but we allowed ourself to get so hyped up over almost every game that was coming out. Such as Seal online if we really took the time to look into that game we would have been able to see what a crap fest it was going to be. Some people like Seal and really it's not that bad of a game, but not a game for a person who considers theirself to be gamers.

As you level up on Asda you have to challenge yourself with certain quests and there are quests you just can not do alone. Unless you purposely grind your ass off to do it. Like the chess world or queen's dungeon(sp?). So that's your own fault if you don't want to run through it with a party lolz. No seriously it's wise to do those things with parties.

Yeah, people this IS聽 a rant I'm just a little e-hurt about two of my favorite games from 2007 being on the bad list (for those of you who don't know the being hurt part is complete sarcasm I'm just having fun with this.)

lol
ON A SERIOUS NOTE

I haven't posted a blog in a while so I thougth i'd stur things up a little bit. Yeah I like both of the above mentioned games but this entire blog was not really needed. But hey!I 'm bored it's 1:21 am here I don't have class tomorrow and I didn't feel like doing art work so there you have it, a new blog entry from me. ^_~ hope you enjoyed taking all that seriously XP

Cesar, calm down there buddy. I was completely calm, I wasn't angry at all. If someone gives an opinion about me or something I said/wrote, I have the right to give my reasoning so they can better understand.

Take a chill pill cesar. The only one here who is taking anything seriously is you, which is weird.

I agree with you. I believe the grind is just an activity to do with friends while you are chatting or just roleplaying. I mean, mmos should keep you in them for years! and if you just stuck in your PC, eventually you will "finish" all that there is to do in the game, because people obsessing and playing for days straight is not developers' fault ~_~.

And Oliase, relax, Paradox having an opinion doesn't mean he is directly attacking one of your articles. If you don't like it, don't read it. And this is his blog, he can rant and ramble as much as he wants :P

you bring up some pretty good points about DECO online, but I must appologize. I didn't mean for this to be a serious blog at all. Just sort of rambling. Though the grind thing was probably the only thing in this that is a complete serious statement. Thanks for saying it was a good article though.

You're right with the fact that it all does depend on preference after all that's how games are marketed.

Well, basically it's all depend on preferences. But if we pay attention to the game performance, the majority market is the king. Deco was failed in my country. I can not give any comment on ASDA story because I haven't got a chance to play it. I was once trying to play Deco, but even the quest is much like grinding. Once you take the quest, for example to get items from certain monster, the chance that the quest items dropped was far more than "average" compare to other online game. I spent 1 hours of playing for early "get the items from certain monster" quest!

But it's not all because of the grinding. You have a very good point and I am totally agree that:
"You know what in fact there were very few, VERY few games that came out last year that had the ability for one to ignore the grind."
However, in my point of view, the feature is not catchy enough for nowadays majority of online gamers. Yes, they still can win some market segment, BUT the majority choose it not as their fave.
For fast conclusion about DECO in my point of view:
They are lack of equipment variety, they are lack of monster variety, the skills don't have any major impact to the game.
This doesn't mean that I am going to be right and someone who love DECO is wrong. It just a matter of preference. I just go with the majority of the market preferences.

Good article.

o,0 did you pay attention to the last few sentences of this blog? I was bored and poking fun. but okay and all

My words weren't an opinion of my own, they were the popular opinion on the matter as well as my personal opinion. If you are a member of any gaming forums you would see how many people were disappointed with it. The game was a terrible grind, and even Midnight who played for 26+ hours straight was barely able to reach 30 on that stretch.

The quests were terrible! I mean, a quest is a voyage, not a "Go kill 10 of this, then repeat" thing like DECO makes them out to be.

Sorry, but even though a lot of people like it, it was nothing like the hype would have made it appear. It was fun for awhile, but nothing special that could make it better then other games like 2Moons and Metin2 which follow the same train.
Leave your words
