Germany school shooting Linked With Gaming

Category: Random Game: Default Posted on Mar 12, 2009 4:42 am

Maybe you have already known the early breaking news in yesterday and it was a disaster for Germany, a 17-year-old teen named Tim Kretschmer carried a gun and bursted in a school, after killing 16 people he ended his own life. And again, his attempts have already been conneted with gaming, the popular first person shooting game, Counter-Strike

The Associated Press report on the shootings - which will be the same one run in countless newspapers/websites across the world - sadly tries to slip in a link between Kretschmer's playing of Counter-Strike and the murders.

"A 17-year-old who would give only his first name, Aki, said he had been studying this year with the shooter at a private business school, and described him as a quiet, reserved person.

Aki said the two played poker together, both in person and online, as well as a multiplayer video game called "Counter-Strike" that involves killing people to complete missions.

"He was good," Aki said."

I just wonder why almost every teen crime will be finally linked with gaming, Yes in this tragedy the AP didn't mean Counter Strike is exactly the reason that cause Tim to kill, but its tone already souds something negative towards to gaming. This is just disgusting.

Very Sad indeed. Why everything has to be linked to something I don't get. If its not video games it would be Tv and before Tv they would blame that horrible rock and roll with the devil worship!

Nobody blames themselves.

sad

it was just an idiot and got no relations to video games, but he played them..

he was in a   mental institution before, his dad got like 15 weapons, and that in germany?! we got the most intense laws in most stuff, so wtf? (you only got a weapon card if u're an advocate in danger and then only for a year, only hobby shooters or rangers get some long duration cards to aquire weapons)

this guy was just fucked up and run away from his life, but instead of silently killing himself in a cellar, he shoot just for fun or because of some bad stuff he received from schoolmates some people down.. he was crazy in his head, so the brain was missing.. he randomly shot guys he saw, a gardener, two people in a car store..

this is just fucked up.. nothing to do with video games or ego shooters..

there are millions of people playing counter strike.. and just some in a year run amok on schools or elsewhere.. the people are shit before, and it has nothing to do with the games.. and we gamers are standing in bad situation, and all gamers of counter strike or else are bad.. propably possible amokrunners -.- that's  just stupid.. the states search for excuses to remove some stuff they just don't like

but non the less, it's damn bad what he did, and all the others before him.. i don't get those psychiatric people..

you know what would solve all these shootings? tighter gun control laws. for some reason every country but Canada seems to have problems with shootings. Canada has very loose gun laws yet they average a very small number of deaths per year from shootings. other countries should take a look at that as well and find out where they screwed up.

yay another school shooting relating to video games. Seriously with all do respect to those that were killed in the shooting you have my prayers.

Video games are just distractions, they ain't a way of living. Get that right you damn reporters. The key word to what that guy was saying was that he was quiet even though Aki was there and played these games together. Meaning this person may have had some social problems. But they didnt care about that they just said he plays counter-strike and he kills people on it. DING thats why!

My prayers to the those who were killed and to their family and friends.

I can't understand how violent games can influence people to this disastrous point. I, 12, am personally addicted to violent games since the age of 7. I've played Counter-Strike and the likes, but I never really thought about getting a knife and go around and stab people.

OMG...some people aren't mature enough to handle those violent games...I guess they probly do need to a ID check on those games so people who have some kind unbalance in their mental state won't be able to buy those type of games...yet again with ID checks for a game could become really annoying u know what i mean...

When I was walking to school, I saw a turtle, it made me feel like killing people. So I did.  It is not the game, it is the person, me myself when I was only 5, I was already playing Conker Bad Fur Day one of the few Rated M games for the N64, Morter Kombat, Joe & Mac, Battle Tanx, Contra 3, Don't see me killing others.

Yeah that's really sad what happened there. When I heard about it in the radio, one of my first thoughts was: "Bet they will find a FPS game on his computer...".

And it was pretty obvious that the media tries again to make CS (or any FPS) a bad game.

Guess we gamers have to go through this.

Well, the first reports here in Germany didn't say a word about videogames.

Of course, during the first three classes today our teachers talked with us about the incident and fortunately not one of them believes that videogames are the cause of all this. They pointed out that the killers in all these shooting sprees already had a connection to guns even before videogames, through their parents, for example. Also, most of them had social problems which weren't in any way related to videogames.

But oh well, media always needs a scapegoat.

Videogames now officially might be related to a total of 26 deaths in human history. Congrats stupid media! Now lets look at deaths caused by OTHER things and find out how significant that is. Soccer riot at Heysel Stadium caused a total of 39 deaths in 1 incident...
