"Noob" In The Running For Millionth English Word Honours
Category: Random Game: Default Posted on May 18, 2009 3:01 am

According to this MSN news report the word “noob” alongside “chiconomics” and “defriend” are candidates to be selected as the millionth English word next month. Global Language Monitor has stated that on June 10th at 10:22am the milestone figure will be passed and the title given.
The rapid increase in new words being generated is due to the massive rise in popularity the English language has undergone in Asia. The English language is currently experiencing it’s most fertile period since the times of William Shakespeare with a new term being coined every 98 minutes. The Texas based association acknowledge a new word once it’s usage reaches 25000 within the media and social networking sites.
The Chief analyst at the Global Language Monitor stated that “Despite having a million words at our disposal it is unlikely that we will ever use more than just a tiny fraction of them.”
From a gaming perspective we would certainly love to see the word noob bestowed with such a landmark honour.
