Somethings baffle me. There are things people do, but doesn't make sense at all. Its like their common sense and their logic that they use in RL suddenly evaporates and turn into nothing once there are in their online persona. It not only puzzles me, but also frustrates me.
Names
It is only normal for people to name their avatar after something they like, find interesting or funny. Or something like that. But some people name their characters in such a way that it is impossible to understand. I do not understand why people would want to name their character in such a way that it is impossible to read their name aloud.
Some people love to name their avatars from popular characters in games, movies and books. Thats fine, but unfortunately chances are someone else would have beaten them to it, and thus the name will be unavailable. But they still insist on using that name and so decide to add some other characters to it to make it useable.
The results? Cloud becomes 鈥淴xCloudxX? 鈥淴xXCloudXxX?or ?XxXCloudXxX777? Of course I am mildly exaggerating but I am sure everyone has seen, or done these things from time to time. But why the hell would you do that? Would you call your child XxLegolasxX? Hell you wouldn't even wanna call your dog that (I'm sure your dog will kick your ass if you did that). How the hell do you pronounce it anyway? 鈥淎CKSacksLegolasacksACKS? And alternating caps with small letters in your name is not cool either. Trying to read FaNaTaStIcKiLl3r aloud makes me wanna hyper-ventilate already. And leave your leetspeak out of the MMORPGs. Not even Sci-Fi MMORPGs. Leetspeak is an equivalent of butchering of English, and no self respecting individual should use it to speak, whether by type-written chat, or speech (not that it is possible).
Beggars
I like beggars. They make me feel better about myself. That there is pride in the few coppers I earn through my hard work. They are probably the lowest of scum in MMORPG. At least scammers work for their money. These guys do nothing and expect handouts from you day in and out. Some will even turn abusive if you don't give them anything.
Its real sweet of you to want to buy a birthday present for your mum in the game, but if she knows you are begging instead of working for it, she'll (should) probably kick your ass for it. Its a great thing that you are a hawt girl IRL. Good for you, but real girls don't ask for handouts like hobos. You are probably not a girl and even if you are, you are a shame to feminism and women in general.
My idea is that, if you can spend time in game begging for money, might as well just get that shapely ass off the ground and go out to farm. Not only will you get more money, you will feel a little prouder of yourself. And I do hope no one gives beggars anything, Every cent you give encourages them to leech even more. For me, I spend my time in the game for my money and I'm keeping my coppers to myself and away from beggars.
Scammers
I don't get it. Why would you believe that that guy over there can duplicate your items and gold? I mean if I found a way to duplicate items and gold, I will keep it to myself and not share it with anyone. Why do you even think he would be so nice as to share it with you? And then you give him all your gold, then he disappears. Who is to blame here? If one could apply just a little bit of RL logic into MMORPGs, scammers would never, EVER be a problem. If you are trading something with another person, do it in a place with little lag, so you will not end up doing the wrong thing. If a deal is too good to be true, it probably is.
Online worlds may not be as real, but applying a wee bit of logic and common sense into it will make things a lot easier.
On another note, I have rejoined the dark side (World of Warcraft). ^_^
