City of Heroes heroes queers - Image 1And so the gay parade marches on!This time, they expanded their colorful horizons by hosting a virtualqueer prom, aptly called the Rainbow Prom. The event was held in-gamein NCSoft's City of Heroes/Villains, and was hailed a success with some 200 queer 'toons showing up in full prom regalia.

Apartfrom that, what made this event a particular fantabulous shebang is thefact that this is probably the first virtual LGBT (that's "Lesbians,Gays, Bisexuals, Transexuals" for those cooped up from the world) promevah!

As it is a prom, a (drag) queen and king had to be hailed,of course. And what better way to do that than with overflowing drinks, music and partying.

Gamerswere invited to finally enjoy the high school dance many missed whenthey were 18. At least 200 'toons showed up, organizers reported, andpartied so hard they actually forced NCSoft to reboot the computergenerating their virtual world -- several times.

NCSoft paved the way for an easier integration of queer gamers in their City of Heroes/Villainscommunity when they noticed that there were quite a lot of themenjoying the MMORPG. In response, they created the Pride Global Channelwhich serves as some kind of LGBT online community where they can havea chat with each other.

Apart from that, they also branched outby offering Gay.com readers a shot at a 14-day free trial of the game.Says Alex von Minden, online community manger, "It's about how muchbetter we can reach out and engage the community."

And reach out, they did. To read more about the Rainbow Prom event, just click on the Read link below.
