There’s no question about it a fully specced Unholy or Frost DK will do far more damage than Blood in PvP and that Blood’s role is really as a tank in PvE.  But the problem with the former is that if they are not kitted out in the latest gear their survival stats are poor.  Blood can have a hard time against Rogues, but Unholy and Frost are so squishy they die in a very few hits.

Death Knights have a number of weaknesses:

  1. lack of mobility
  2. lack of crowd control
  3. they get constantly stunned, silenced, banished, you name it
  4. easily kited

I could go on but it would just be a variation on a theme and I’m just justifying my continuing use of the Blood talent tree ;-) Blood’s survivability, especially when you do not have the full Cataclysmic gear, makes it a necessity in PvP play.  I sincerely doubt that there are many DK’s, who are minus a reliable team base, that can obtain Cata gear from the Arena’s without using Blood.  So anyone hating on Blood DK’s can go boo hiss elsewhere.

Unfortunately Blizzard listened to the whingers  and reduced the amount of damage a Blood DK can now do by removing vengeance from PvP play.  For some reason ranged class players believe they have a god given right to be able to own melee and apparently Blizzard agrees :-( Why they haven’t addressed the really easy to play OP units like the Rogue and Frost Mage causes constant amazement.  At the risk of being controversial I will state clearly that Death Knights are easy to kill for most classes.  If you are a ranged class just use your silences and keep out of range, make the DK use their spell heals and then finish them off.  If you have a pet don’t feed the DK Death Strike heals, keep it close to you or have it attacking another class.   Melee classes can work it out for themselves, as many have :-(

I will revert to Frost once I have got my DK geared up, but at the rate I’m going we will be into the next set of gear before I achieve full Cata status.  I really could do with finding a PvP guild and doing a few Baradin Hold runs.  With a good partner or team behind me it would not be as hard to progress.  In fact I reckon it would be a quite easy and painless objective.

Any new players out there who would like to join a new guild set up specifically to help newbs, and would be prepared to start a character off in an EU realm let me know and I’ll see what I can do.  As I’m based in Nagrand I would probably have to start the guild in that realm.  I don’t know the requirements because I’ve never considered creating one before.
