WAR: Beta Update - Part 1

Posted October 22nd, 2007 by Aelryn

Scraps for the WAR-hungry masses.

The Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning team makes up for the lengthy beta downtime by doling out the first of many beta update features.

So this begins the first of our weekly updates to the WAR Beta community. This is where we keep all of you up to speed with the changes, enhancements, and additions to WAR during this downtime. Each week will have different information from the various teams. Some of the information we’ll be keeping fairly high level, at least initially, but we will work on giving you insights into what to expect when we re-open in December.

EVE Online: CCP Discovers Database Exploit

EVE Online: CCP Discovers Database Exploit

Posted October 20th, 2007 by Ralphedelominius

CCP Games' EVE Online experienced an unexpected 9-hour downtime yesterday after a security breach was detected in the game's database. Judging from the announcement from COO Hörðdal, thankfully it would look like someone was altering their own character to their benefit rather than trying to harvest other's data from the system.

CCP Chief Operating Officer Jón Hörðdal has issued the following statement regarding the unexpected interruption of service for EVE Online and its website on Friday, October 19.

At 10:25 GMT today we discovered an anomaly in the EVE Online Database indicating a potential exploit. Our policy in such cases is to mobilize a taskforce of internal and external experts to evaluate the situation. At 12:57 that group concluded that our best course of action was to go completely dark while an exhaustive scan of our entire infrastructure was executed.

What we discovered was an indication that one of our databases was being accessed through a security breach. While some may feel that such a drastic reaction was not warranted, it is always our approach to err on the side of caution in o

Non-Exclusive Dev Diary: The Caves of Donn

Non-Exclusive Dev Diary: The Caves of Donn

Tabula Rasa Mission Designer Rebekah Tran has penned a dev diary detailing the Caves of Don, one of the first instance maps that players will be able to explore after entering the Wilderness Area.

The game world of Tabula Rasa is filled with many different types of environments that range from somewhat familiar to very alien. Wilderness is the first overland map that the player visits after completing the game tutorial. It is covered with dense forests, and sports the familiar sounds of twittering birds… that is, when you’re not in the middle of a fierce battle.

One of the first instance maps players can explore off Wilderness is Caves of Donn. When it came time for me to start creating the missions on this map, I had a little bit of a challenge on my hands, as it is one of the smaller instance maps. It is laid out as three primary large outdoor rooms connected by a smaller cave system. These connecting caves are rather enclosed, so the battles in Ca

Posted October 18th, 2007 by Micajah

Prepare to dial in because you'll be traveling via Stargate in a year!

There's no need to adjust your computer monitor, you've read the headline correctly. Stargate Worlds, the upcoming sci-fi MMORPG being developed by Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment and based off of the long-running television series Stargate SG-1, will be hitting your computers in the fourth quarter of 2008. The news was slipped to us by Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment's senior marketing manager, Kevin Balentine, as he discussed how the development of the game was progressing. Here's what Kevin had to say:

"We've got a playable version of the game inside of our building. I'm not prepared to release our beta schedule yet, but I can say that we're going to be releasing the game in the fourth quarter of next year. You can do the math and figure out when our beta program will be."

There you have it folks, the official release date for Stargate Worlds brought to you via the ears and fingers of the stalwart Ten Ton Hammer crew. Soon you'll be taking wormholes to the far reaches of space, trying to outmaneuver the Goa'ulds or facing down
