1. P2P (Pay To Play) - Paying to play games which require a lot of money is quite risky, because you might probably leave that game in just a few hours, maybe even minutes. Do not rush into buying anything as soon as you get into the game, especially if you have to buy the actual game CD/DVD first and then pay weekly/monthly. Try a trial of that game if anything like that is out there. There are also MMOs where you only have to pay for the CD/DVD and then you can enjoy the game for how much you want, without needing to pay for it again. A good example of this is the highly renowned Guild Wars. Only then can you start paying for the actual game subscription. Now, there is another reason you should be careful what P2P game you pick. Who knows, maybe the company who founded it will bankrupt, and won't be able to fund the game enough. Or, the game may be discontinued, and you won't be able to play it anymore. The game system and graphics may also be too old. Take into consideration the user base, as well. How many people play it? Will you play it alone, or with thousands of other gamers? That's also important. P2P games should be better than F2P games, considering you have to pay for them. Most of them are better than F2P games, but there are some pay to play games which are less better than free to play ones. You should usually avoid all P2P games, except the known ones, like World of Warcraft, Guild Wars, and so on and so forth. Do note, a P2P game does NOT mean it's better than a F2P game! And also, opinions differ for everyone else. For example, you might like World of Warcraft over FantasyTennis, but I don't. I actually enjoy playing FantasyTennis more than Worlf of Warcraft, I think it's boring for me. Most P2P games are awesome, but be careful what you pick. Pick wrongly and your money goes where it shouldn't. Also to be noted, the cover and anticipation for a P2P game DON'T always mean it's a great game, so be careful with this one, too. Simply said, the pros of the P2P games are that they're usually of better quality than the F2P games, and the cons are that you have to pay money to play them.

2. F2P (Free To Play) - Paying free to play games isn't risky at all, unless you want to buy ingame items. That's fine, but make sure you don't waste your money on those, only if you're sure you'll keep playing that game and not leave as soon as you join it. You shouldn't really compare a P2P game and a F2P game, because free to play games offer you freedom to play the game, while the pay to play ones stress you to keep playing the game and max your level while you have the subscription. Some people actually pay a lot more money聽 for these games, than the pay to play ones. They're obsessed with the ingame items you can buy in them, and instantly buy them as soon as they see them, not considering the quality. But not all of them are like this.聽 Be careful what you buy, it might not be that advantageous in some games. Overall, F2P games are great because they allow even the poor to play and enjoy them. Some things from the P2P section also apply to this. This one's easier than the other game type. The pros of this type is that everyone can enjoy it, and the cons are that they are usually not as good as the pay to play ones, and don't have a bright future.

Do note, an MMO might change from P2P to F2P, or vice-versa.聽 It's also important to note, you shouldn't waste money on MMOs, not a lot, at least. You could always do much better things with the money than buying yourself MMO stuff.
