Now the title itself should indicate that this article is about...well... war, right? That is in fact correct today's lovely article brought to you by yours truly is about a battle between gaming formats... console or computer (or what I will label as "computron" for aesthetic purposes). Now the reason why I bring this tired subject up is because I was just recently playing on a console and now so readily typing on the computer. 聽聽聽 As most of us know the difference between computron games and console games is literally variety.聽 Generally it is known that computron games are primarily based around LAN or multiplayer type content rather then single player content, no that it is not true for some computer games such as "Oblivion", but in most cases when you walk into your local gaming store/electronics depot and computer games are being showcased what content is primarily being represented? Multiplayer from MMORPG to RTS or FPS (for those of you acronym impaired that would be Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game,聽 Real Time Strategy, and First Person Shooter.) Not to say that the selection of computron games is not noteworthy, it is obviously quite extensive, it is just oriented towards more player on player on content rather than the 'solo' play. While our dear friend the console is generally oriented for solo play or very small # multiplayer generally running from 1-8 players. However, the point of this article is to show answer some already asked questions with possibly some new insight. 聽聽聽 This may seem pointless on an MMO oriented website but its relevant because now MMO's are becoming fully integrated into console gameplay and could possibly start taking away from the computron, maybe even making gaming on the computron obsolete in the long run or ultimately merging computron and console together for the ULTIMATE gaming machine (which could very well involve diodes and VR googles... or that really odd fluid found in the Matrix to keep you alive while you are in a virtual world pulled over your eyes! Oh no!!) Its the fact that simply the war is beginning to end in a truce. A console is known to provide a pure gaming experience as on a console, when playing a game, can only play the game. For instance I was just playing Rock Band... and I will tell you right now it is not easy to both tap out the nice song on the T.V. and blog at the same time, it generally ends in disaster, that should be obvious considering a game like Rock Band shouldn't be a multitasking game... but what if you were playing an RPG and you were in the middle of a boss battle it is slightly more difficult to get up from the T.V. and hop on the computron and write an article or read one than it would be to pause on the computron and tab to the article typing/reading away to your hearts content. The computron allows for multitasking, as well as constantly improving graphics (generally costing more money as time goes on to trick out your computron) but also generally has far more advanced controls to play a game than a console's simplified controllers. 聽聽聽 In reality is all a matter of choice for the new generation of gamers if the big online MMO's are going to be mainstreamed onto consoles or maintained on Computron's but the fact is the WAR seems to be over and now the merging is beginning... soon to find a new system all together right? I bet there are some that believe either will win, but most likely neither will 'win' and more likely everything will eventually be merged into a better system for the enjoyment of gaming. The WAR could still be on, and I personally hope neither wins, nor a merging happen, because both the computron and the console produce totally different gaming experiences and I very much enjoy that. I can very well play with a bunch of people in Team Fortress 2 on the Computer (or on console too thanks to the Orange Box), but when聽 I want to play by myself or with a couple of friends the console is the way to go, easy to set up, fun to play. (If you have ever set up a LAN party you should know how absolutely annoying they can be when there are a wide variety of computers.) So what is your choice? Mine is to promote the console and PC war, because damn it that just makes good gaming.
