Grimlands, which is a new shooter MMO from gamigo and is set in a post-apocalyptic world has sent out the first wave of closed beta invites. Yep, wave, that means that even if you sign up for the beta now, you may still have a chance to get into the game in one of the other waves of invites - luckily I managed to get into the first wave.

Oddly enough even thought the game is in it's first wave, it so far feels and seems like it is still in the alpha stages. The first hint to that is the download link they gave to beta participants goes to the alpha folder on their server, the other is the character creation system. The current stage of the character creation system is, in short, "work in progress". In fact it actually says that when you go to it. By work in progress they mean that it doesn't work at all yet, the only thing you can make is the default character so far, though hopefully that will change soon. Though going by the looks of what we can see so far, it looks like the character creation will be fairly nice when it is functional. There are signs already that you can change the build of the character such as; slim, athletic, or fat.

As for the game's features, those are looking fairly good as well. There is no leveling system in the game or even any classes in place in the game, instead there is a skill and profession system instead to take place of that. As for how you will build up your skills, well you do that by actually using them, you don't need to worry about spending points to get them up. This will allow players to build up their characters how they want without feeling the restrain from the standard archetypes in most games. One of the more interesting features that will be put in place, that I myself am looking forward to, is player run towns. There isn't much info on it, but it is usually a fun feature to have.

Did anyone else get in the beta, or did you not sign up for it?
