So they finally started sending out the acceptance letters for those who got into Salem's beta; you can view an example of the acceptance letter below, but what it means is that they are making progress and hopefully that does mean that the beta will be at the end of the month for sure.

For those of you who haven't heard of the game, or maybe just didn't pay much head to it, the game is rather unique. Instead of the normal grind heavy games that require you to kill the same monster(s) hundreds of times, doing the same quests whose only change of goal is the monster you need to slay, and just the normal static world where it feels like what you contribute doesn't do anything to the whole. This game takes a totally different approach, putting players in a mutable world in which you can shape and change to your will. It allows players to dive into the game and survive in a world that is against them by building shelter, foraging and preparing food, hunting game when needed, and protecting themselves from players that may wish to do them harm. But it isn't without it's repercussions, since the game does have perma-death, with the relief on that your descendant player will inherit some of the skills from the one who fell, but will not get any of the items or anything like that. So the choice of being a savage barbarian who goes and kills players while stealing and destroying themselves may not appeal to all due to the repercussions such villainous acts may attract.

It is understandable that this game may not be for everyone, but if you're willing to try to get a general idea of what this type of game is like the developers of it, Seatribe, has a game called Haven and Hearth, which actually attracted the producers Paradox to getting this game made. Unlike this one, whose pay model is still unknown, Haven and Hearth is a completely free game fueled by donations. The game is separate from it's counterpart, as the setting is different, the graphics in Salem are 3D, and some of the mechanics have been re-worked. So in essence they're different but still sort of the same. The one thing you need to watch out for in Haven however is the lag, which can get brutal after awhile, since the team has been too busy working on Salem to give much attention to their other game.
