Well I know fans have been pining for a remake of the cult classic in RPG history, but they may not get as much of what they want if it does actually come out. Over at OXM UK’s site, they have an article that quotes Final Fantasy XIII-2’s director Yoshinori Kitasi on his thoughts on making a FF VII remake.

From the article he doesn’t think that because it sold a lot back in 1997, it may not sell a lot today if they just did a straight up HD remake of the game, and that it also wouldn’t be as enjoyable for them to develop the game. As he said in the article, “"If I may speak as a game creator, if we were to produce a remake of VII, for example, I would be really tempted to delete things and add new elements, new systems or whatever because if we were to make exactly the same thing now, it'd be like a repeat.”

That means that if they did remake the game, it may not be the same one fans have been wishing for. It would be FF VII in HD, but some of the features and aspects they found to be on the negative side would be altered, or even removed.

With these changes it may be like remakes of old movies you loved. The original was something that you love for years, then someone remakes it and it spoiled the memory and turned out to be something completely different that fans of the old may hate, but new fans enjoy.

So for some of you who played FFVII and liked it, would you still want to see a remake, even knowing that if they do it they will most likely alter some things you loved about it? As for me, I am not sure. It was my first RPG when I got my PSX and I put countless hours into the game. I would be interested to see what they would do with some of the features, but worried that they may actually break the game in the process. So overall, I am undecided.
