Exploring with my 'new' character
So I just got killed in Salem. Am I mad? Not really. Sorta sucks since I had a nice claim in where I thought was the middle of nowhere. My friend and I found a spot with a mine, and the potential to build up the area around. The situation was nice, since we had a mix of biomes and easy access to most materials. Ah, well. I don't know who the killer was, just that he got me while I was alt tabbed and checking something out while learning skills, so that does mean I need to start all over, and most likely go to a different area considering the one we lived in is probably raided by now. I would have my friend check, but he is asleep at the moment and he would probably get killed too. This at least gives me a chance to explore a bit more and try to find a better area for us to settle, far away from people - if that is even possible.
Now you may be wondering what I mean by the custom client. If you've played Haven and Hearth, you most likely know of Ender and his custom client for the game, which is actually I believe the most used client. Well, he is in Salem and already has a custom client that is out. The client features some features that you're already used to such as a radar, movable map (Screw you left corner map), more hotkey bars that are movable, and some other features I forgot as I write this. The point is, the vanilla client blows, and if you have access to the beta, get this version. The radar in particular is rather handy since it will ping things that are out of your field of view, even when you zoom out all of the way. That means finding those hard to find items will be a lot easier, if they're anywhere near you. If you're interested in the client, you can grab it from his official topic here.
So yea, the lesson learned today is that the default client sucks, and don't AFK it can get you killed even in the most remote area. Has anyone else who is in the beta experienced random acts of violence such as this? So far the general populace that I have met have been swell, I had a lot of trades go off without a hitch, and this is the first time I met an aggressive or even violent player, even when I was out exploring and running into random camps. Guess I should start working on combat earlier on first.
