Here is a bit of news, that unfortunately I am a few days late on. EA games and Aeria Games have partnered to release Battlefield Heroes. Those of you who know the game already know that the game was previously hosted by Aeria Games and was free-to-play so the move is a bit odd, in my opinion.

For those of you who never played Battlefield Hereos, it’s a fast paced third person shooter, with a bit of a goofy side.  Pretty much, it feels like a cartoon shooter, but it was a lot of fun to play. It features two factions with several ‘classes’, nice customization on which skills you pick and how you set up your character,  maps with different modes, a good variety of vehicles, and was just a blast to play. I played it from when it was in beta to after it was released.

I say was fun to play because when EA had it, they handled the game fairly poorly in my opinion. Their free-to-play model felt more like a trial than a real game. That is because win or lose, once you get to the later stages of the game, it was fairly hard to make in game currency and keep the equipment you earned on your character. It felt like you had to play all day just to maintain low quality gear. Beyond that hackers were a growing problem in the game. I would join a server and here is a guy standing on the highest point with an aimbot that headshots you when you’re in his LOS. Needless to say it killed any fun I had with the game. Being that they passed the reigns over to Aeria Games, I am hoping they will or at least can change things to make the game a bit more enjoyable.

Overall, I do at least encourage those of you who like shooters, especially those with a not so serious nature to give it a shot. The game was fun for me back when it was originally released, and hopefully Aeria Games will bring that back. We can just watch and wait, right?
