PaybyCash - Image 1One of the problems some players have with MMORPGs is the need for a credit card to pay the monthly dues. The guys from Funcom realized this and have enlisted PayByCash to help facilitate payments for Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures (Xbox 360, PC).

For those who aren't too familiar with PayByCash, it is a division founded by Internet Payment Solutions, Inc which allows gamers to pay using cash, checks, PayPal and various other localized paying methods.

This is an awesome move by the guys from Funcom as it potentially expands the user base of the game. So if you don't have a credit card but want to play Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures, you might want to look into the different payment schemes offered by PayByCash to see if they have a more attractive option for you.

With over 700,000 beta testers signed up for EA Mythic's epic fantasy MMO title Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning, the developers are currently in full swing, testing many of the different Campaign aspects the game will feature. The forces of the Empire and Chaos square off in war-torn areas of Talabecland and High Pass as the war slowly approaches the Empire capital city of Altdorf.

The current phase of testing began during the second week of April and ran until the second week of May. This round of the closed beta will determine the fate of Altdorf and will test various elements of the RvR Campaign. Several features were tested extensively and included:
  • The first version of our in-game mail system
  • Siege Testing
  • Campaign Testing
  • Fortresses
  • Altdorf
  • Twelve Careers with Career Mastery.
The testing phase was divided into two parts. The first portion focused on the updated PvE content and careers. The devs noted that players should make it a point to test the new career mechanics with templated Rank 20 characters.

The second part of the test focused on the overall campaign itself. The bar was further raised and the devs allowed the creation

Pokemon Squirtle - Image 1

Pokemon + MMO = ?

You can try to solve the equation, but in case you don't know what the answer is (most of us don't, either), there is a chance that we may find out, soon. Game developer Nnooo, of WiiWare's Pop fame, is pitching that very idea to Nintendo. There's still no word if there will be a future to such an idea, but we certainly do hope that it pulls through.

Imagine being able to roam around, collecting Pokemon and exchanging creatures with in-game friends, or challenge Gym Leaders in neighboring towns. If you think about it, Pokemon is one of the IPs that can easily translate into an MMO title.

Will we see a Pokemon MMO then, in the near future? We don't know, but you can bet that we'll be keeping tabs on this particular tidbit. Check this space for more updates!

Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures - Image 1Jorgen Tharaldsen, the product director for Funcom's Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures (Xbox 360, PC),  has announced that they plan to have cross-platform connectivity between the Xbox 360 and PC version of the game. In addition, he hinted at the possibility of a PlayStation 3 version as well as how the company will be splitting up to handle the maintenance and development of the game.

Tharaldsen explained that the Xbox 360 game should be coming out within a year and that those who pick up this version will be enjoying "the same essence and the same experience" that PC gamers will be experiencing, and that includes the possibility of being able to play with the PC community. He explained this further:

We want them to be able to play with their PC friends if they like to. It's not a forced thing but we would like that to happen. But obviously the control mechanism, the communication, all this is stuff we are solving on a daily basis. The patching, the install, the footprint, the payment, the servers, the customer service... it's a challenge. But we will get there eventually.

He also pointed out that they haven't ruled out the possibility of coming out with a PlayStation

An orc shaman as depicted in EA Mythic's Warhammer forbidden - Image 1Just when you thought North America and Europe will be the only ones to get dedicated regional servers upon the release of EA Mythic's Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning, Electronic Arts gave everyone a pleasant surprise by announcing that it will also have plans of creating regional servers for Australia, New Zealand, and Southeast Asia.

The new Oceanic server will be released simultaneously with its North American and European counterparts. The actual game server will be located in mainland Australia and will service New Zealand, Singapore, and other surrounding South East Asian territories.

While it was noted that the new service will be launched by Spring of 2008 in Australia, Warhammer Online Producer Josh Drescher explained that Australia's Spring is actually around the same time as America's Fall. This caused some initial confusion at the time this was announced, but Drescher mentioned that the game will have a simultaneous release in all regions by its US Fall release date.

In addition, Oceanic players will have a chance to play on North American servers using the same client to access either server. The servers will also include regional tags with corresponding ping rates

Swig and Toss - Image 1 Swig and Toss - Image 2

Turbine Inc. recently sent out a press release announcing the release of a new mini-game for their Mines of Moria website. It might not be for the upcoming expansion to The Lord of the Rings Online, but we've tried it, and it's fun nevertheless.

The game, called Swig and Toss is an axe-throwing competition that adds a bit of drinking and wagering into the mix to make things more interesting. The game last ten rounds, and you basically try to get as high a score as possible by wagering your gold coins. You can drink some ale, which will allow you to wager more money (because you're drunk and probably not thinking straight) and at the same time impair your ability to aim properly.

The game's quite tough when you've had a bit to drink, but if you can time everything just right, you should be able to hit the bullseye regardless of how much you drink. You can check out the new minigame by visiting the website below. In the meantime, enjoy these pictures we have of the minigame in question!
