When I traveled trough the virtual worlds I've found many dangers, hostilities, odd situations and people that have tried to take advantage of me. In real life, heroes rarely appear out of nowhere, risking their lives to keep us safe from harm. While playing online I have found myself placing a steel barrier before meeting anyone. Whenever someone makes an attempt to contact me all kind of cautious thoughts pop in to my mind: What does he/she want? Is he/she a scammer? Is there an ambush waiting for me? Is he/she a stalker? Very few people I can really call my friends online, I don't consider myself paranoid but I am aware of the many players that don't mean what they say, or rehearse what they profess. Among this wild interaction environment there is one act that is far more memorable for me than slaying the same boss monster for the ninth time. I am talking of course of an act of true heroism. When I was about to be exterminated without mercy by a monster they came out of nowhere without saying a word they put there own safety in the line to save me. In the worst case they are ki

My sweet love. How can I start to explain what I feel about you if I can’t ignore what the people think about how I feel? They say that I’m a boy that never grew up, that it’s just a silly illusion. Who gave them the right to decide what I feel? I learned at an early age that love was being there for the person you love no matter what. You have been there for me when I was down, when I threw my hopes out the window and gave up on life. You picked me up and talked me through it; day after day you have been there for me. More than just two desperate strangers that met on chat room, we collaborate inside the game and learn more about each other every day. I have learned to love you through every word, through every thought. I can’t sleep if you didn’t login into the game as usual and you didn’t reply my messages. I worry about you more than you can ever imagine. Because I don’t know what I would do if something happened to you, who would I call? How would I help you? Here I sit looking at the screen, typing away what I feel about you in the keyboard. I knew there was somewhere out there only for me, someone that I could trust, someone that I could laugh and cry with, someo

Something New, Something Old, Something Borrowed, Something Copied? The term "New Game" usually means that you might expect a different experience from a new product. Nevertheless, the tem in the video game industry very rarely means that it is an entirely new concept. Most of the games we can obtained that are "New" are following a specific formula or sequence of events that we are already familiar with. For example First Person Shooters (FPS) you know that of course you will have to shoot your way through the game, but there are many things that have been done that have renewed the genre since Wolfenstein 3D. Great examples of excellent landmarks for the genre are Call of Duty 4 and the Halo series. In the early years of MMORPG development not many developers worried about similar games popping out, because it was just very expensive to take on a project like a MMORPG and there was not enough demand for online multiplayer games. Recently, Maplestory one of the games with one of the largest communities has seen a very similar game come into the market. I have never played Maplestory but I tried the alleged clone to see what was my experience like

Through the games I've played, even though they are not many I have found a recurrent problem in each one of them. Either I get too many useless things on mi inventory and/or my inventory is full before I even do my third quest. My inventory tends to get filled with lower level quest items that are worth close to nothing, or don't sell well because nobody does that ~boring quest~. In some games I even need to do a special inventory quest which is usually of royal pain proportions. I know that it would be too much to ask to have infinite inventory, but I wish we could have more useful items overall. In game design theory, dead squirrels are useless things that players carry in their inventories, which is something game designers should try to avoid. But apparently MMO developers didn't get the memo, because we have to struggle to get all the dead squirrels out of our way when we are trying desperately to find a health potion. Wish list I wish I could do more with things inside games, for example if I have a rock, a string and a stick I could build a rough bow. But so far I haven't found a class that "Invents stuff". I wish I had a search function where I c

Warhammer Age of Reckoning is due on the shelves in the second Quarter of 2008, that is, if it's not delayed again. Over 600,00 applicants have signed up for the Beta phase of the game; and it has won several "Most Anticipated" awards among others. There is no single word that can describe WAR, but I sailed on a quest to gather more information about it since I've seen quite a few threads here and there about how it compares to WoW. I don't intend to go into every single detail here, just a quickie for discussion purposes. Once Upon a War Warhammer made its debut on 1983, it was written by Bryan Ansell, Richard Haliwell and Rick Prestley. It was a tabletop war game, created by Games Workshop called Warhammer Fantasy Battle. It included races such as: - Elves
- Dwarfs
- Undead
- Orcs
- Goblins
- Vampires
Since it's release it has been periodically re-released and updated. The latest version dates from September 9th 2006. Okay, so when did Warhammer first jump into our PCs? It happened in 1995, the title of the game was Warhammer: Shadow of the Horned Rat.
Shadow of the Horned Rat didn't got much attention, because it was very buggy and difficult at the time of it's release. Neverthel

What is it?
The Halo Effect is an association of one trait to another set of trades, it is closely related to the implicit personality theory. It is a very interesting phenomenon that takes place in our every day life. We do it all the time, mostly without noticing that we are. "You can't judge a book by it's cover" Ok maybe not, but we do it all the time with people don't we? One of the experiments that clearly show us the halo effect was one I saw on TV a long time ago, it goes like this: Two people with the same resume go to an interview with the same employer the difference between the two applicants is that one is clearly better good looking, better dressed and well groomed than the other one. The employer had no knowledge of this experiment being done, and after the interviews took place, the better looking person was called and offered the job. Now, what can we say about this? could you file a claim against an employer for discriminating your looks? I think not. But for the second experiment, they used elementary school kids, they introduced two "substitute teachers" for one class only, again one of them more good looking than the other
