  Views: 34  |  Category : Default |  Post time : 2007-12-23 12:39:34    Comments: 0  |  Bookmark

News from kotaku.com:

There's just no love for Shanghai these days - the 2nd annual China Game Developers Conference (like the American one, just in China for the Chinese market) is moving to Beijing for the 2008 conference, to be held 24-26 September at the Jiuhua Spa and Resort. Faaaancy. The full press release is after the jump - if I weren't avoiding the Mainland like the plague in '08, I'd love to go.

The China Game Developers Conference (GDC), now in its second year, will take place September 24-26, 2008 at the Jiuhua Spa and Resort in Beijing. CMP Technology, presenters of the largest global event dedicated to videogame creation, the Game Developers Conference, have once again partnered with leading technology, media and events company, IDG, and now with Beijing Howell International Exhibition Co Ltd, producers of the immensely popular China Joy, to present China GDC 2008. The event builds on the success of the 2007 event, which exceeded expectations with more than 2,000 attendees. China GDC will once again feature content programmed by an advisory board of Chinese developers who share a commitment to promote and support their country's game industry.

China GDC aims to advance

0 Digg it    Hellgate London v0.7 Patch Released

The version 0.7 patch for Hellgate London is now live. Just three more decimals and we can ditch the beta number! The good news is that they've tracked down some of those nasty memory leaks:

We have rewritten our memory manager and also identified two key memory issues. This should make an enormous difference to the vast majority of our players. The cheer that went up around the office was probably heard for miles. The instability of the client is something that has embarrassed and bothered us since the game launched, and we are incredibly happy to be able to address it in such a substantive way before the holiday break.

Maybe I'll fire the game up and see what sort of progress they've made.

0 Digg it    EVE' s Most Recent Update Crippled Players' Computers!?
  Views: 159  |  Category : Default |  Post time : 2007-12-12 12:09:56    Comments: 0  |  Bookmark

Some Eve Online players found themselves floating aimlessly in the cold reaches of space today when they rebooted their computers after installing the game's most recent update.

Eager Windows XP gamers who downloaded the update via the game's Premium Trinity patch before 4:00 a.m. GMT today found that, in addition to adding a bunch of swell new features, the patch also removed their operating system's boot.ini file, effectively crippling the OS.

Here's the breakdown from Eve Online's official support page:

If you are only using the Classic client or installed the Premium client using the full Premium installer than you are not affected.

If you upgraded from the Classic client to the Premium client, using the content upgrade, then please read on.

Check the root directory of your hard drive and see if you have a boot.ini file, if so then you are not affected. The file is normally hidden so you need to click Tools : Folder Options : View and select "Show hidden files and folders" and uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" to be able to see it.

You can also check for the presence of this file by clicking Start : Control Panel : System : Advanced : Startup and Rec
