Are gamers superstitious?

just finished reading some very interesting articles on gaming superstition.

Why Gamers and Pigeons Are Superstitious

All articles are linked to each other with many more links...

Are we really so superstitious in our games? Have we really developed such gaming behaviours?

In LC for example i can post the following:
- you get better results in pet farming, if you do it with level 10 character.
- you get better results in pet farming if you do it on k4
- you get better bloodseal abilities if you bloodseal your item during a fight with a red monster and while your hp are below 20%

Our lack of in-depth knowledge of game mechanics, tend to lead us in superstition?
Are we all narrow-minded so as to think that programmers have thought of anything, while most games out there suck because of heavy gameplay bugs? Or in some case poor programming that cause unexpected lag and or crash?

There was a talk in Last Chaos some months ago about programmers implemented into  the game an entropy equation. This algorith, was supposed to affect your "game luck", either in crafting skills or in getting better drops.
(For those of you unfamiliar with entropy, here's the WIKI article)

I think most of us tend to develop such behaviours when we start playing a game.
Many of us, see the truth after a certain point, when we have advanced somewhat in the game and we better understand the world we play in.
But there will always be some players, no matter what level, that are narrow minded and think that there is a game god out there that rewards them with better drops or anything.

Those players (especially the high level ones) start spreading those rumours. As a result, you will see many newbies doing the most amazing things in an effort to advance more quickly in the game. For me, it is just sad.

Sure there are mechanics that check the % of a drop or of a crafting attempt. But to believe that in order to get the drop you must have 1hp, wear nothing and kill the monster with bare hands,,,, its simple silly (dont want to use any heavier word here).

Of course in games there are items that help you get the desirable effect - drop or craft. But those items simply increase your base % of success.
Feeding pigeons will help you not, unless there is a quest saying to feed 1k pigeons :)

Cheers and happy hunting!

Yup, I agree. I play Mu online be4, and there're some rumors like if you go to somewhere or drink a wine be4 upgrading your weapon, the possibility of success will increase. LMAO, they don't really know how the programmer design it and just superstitious.
