Atlantica Online is no longer targetting casual gamers!

Category: Default Game: Atlantica Online Posted on Aug 14, 2009 11:53 am

One of the best things about Atlantica Online was that it was casual up until lvl 95. Stamina was suppose to offset grind, but it never did. Players just left their computer on overnight to build it up and use it before the reset. Starting from lvl 95+, that changed. The exp curve took a steep climb and turned into your typical Korean grinding MMO. The only thing that offset this was the possibility of getting 5% towards your next level by doing 3 quests and 2 Free League battles each day. Without this, many players would have never gotten past lvl 95 (and many still don't).

Now comes the dreaded lvl 130 patch. If you thought that level 95+ was bad, getting from 120 to 130 requires more than 4 times the total experience it took to get from 1 to 120. That's a whopping total of over 8 billion experience. For a measurement of how bad that is, a monster in the lvl 120 dungeon gives about 45000 exp and the total of all the quests amounts to maybe 10% of what is needed to get to lvl 121. It would take around 7000 kills for a lvl 120 player to reach lvl 121 and each level gets significantly worse. Right now, many of the top players who have been going over the experience limit probably won't get past lvl 124 after they lift the cap and these people already have nearly 4 billion experience even. To top it off, there is a significant experience penalty for dying once you reach lvl 121. The old death penalty at lvl 120 is never more than maybe 5000 experience. The new death penalty can go up to millions depending on your level. It lowers the incentive to train at the high lvl areas even more and results in more favoring lower level repeatable quests to level up.

Bosses from the lvl 96 dungeon on and mobs from the lvl 100 dungeon on makes item mall a necessity to survive. Servant Leader and Sedna was nerfed recently, but they still have an insane amount of HP. The same goes for Machine Gun Brooks (boss for lvl 100 area). Without the Blessing Potion or License, battles take much longer than is worth it and odds are you won't even win without Scroll of Ressurection and Life's Blessing. With Seth's Will and Blessing, it still took me 20 minutes or so to defeat Machine Gun Brooks at lvl 116. Even lvl 120 players right now just grind a single quest chain over and over again in order to lvl up. Many of them stopped bothering with the scenario dungeons past Yggdrasil (lvl 95) dungeon.

The US version of nDoors hasn't really changed anything but the item mall for us and that was only to change the order in which items were released here. As for direct game changes, they haven't really done much so odds are they won't do anything about this to change it back. If you had problems with lvl 95+, you should consider changing to another game soon as the new patch will only make things even worse for you.

I am a lv.125, guild leader, nation king. I like this game and I am not gonna quitting but the truth is the truth and this is it:

Yes this game is one of a kind, very enjoyable at any level, requires stragey and is not boring as some others, I did not have to grind until up to lv.119, not even a little. I played 5 other MMORPG and they'll bored me except AO;

BUT

prepare LOT lot lot of real money for their mall items, you can't do without unless you wanna be just another mediocre player. You'll never get pass level 105 without it and with a decent gear that can somehow hope to kill Sedna or Brook.  It was possible to play at any level as free player until 2-3 patches ago. Every patch now is just intended to cut free players.

Try it by yourself, no reason not to, don't have to listen to me or anyone else, best experience is made personally. Just don't wine later when it happens. Enjoy the fun ( a lot ) when you are lv.95-

Also, AO do not care about high levels anymore, so you'll find litle of them left, that will be an obstacle when trying to sell items for high level players.

the reason why a lvl 50 can pvp a level 70 is because the game automatically lowers the ability of the higher level player, similar to that of a level sync system in final fantasy xi.

Zanpakutou replied at 1:09 pm Aug 18,2009
this isn't how it happens. there is no sync system in atlantica. there is a reduced effect on upgraded effect but it is still there. a lvl 70 with osiris equipment can just brute force their way through any lvl 50 or 60 team with blood knight or gilgamesh gear. a +10 has reduced stats, but it still adds like 300 STR which makes it not really all that helpful for the lower level guy.

Hmm its funny when people flame reviewers from giving their opinion....how do you know he didnt take it far? i quit atlantica long ago when cap was 120 and my character was on Macedon lvl 113.  the game has alot of goods during the beginning but like he said after 95 its all about spending the cash to even make it further. Try doing end game without having your blessing pots or doing fast grinding without spamming scrolls. Oh wait how about getting a Mount you just really wanted but you spent over $100 just to end up with a bunch of crap?

dont say im the only one and this game revolves around being one of the best.  The best keep getting rewarded from farming off the weak in pvp....And u can still check my char out his name is Etile and i gave it away long with the rest of my shit that i spent hundreds of dollars tryin to get

stamina isnt a problem once you are in a guild where they craft alot, giving you craft exp to reach level 11 quickly and giving you the abiltiy to teach others the craft also and in return giving you both exp and stamina. I myself reached lvl 104 and its a tad bit boring due to the fact that many monsters at that level are tougher than usual. I also was in CB and still playing. There are also many ways of leveling or grinding exp :

Indy dungeons (dungeons wher 1-3 players party up and fight monsters and finishing the limit befor time runs out. Rewards are monsters give more exp than usual and a special weapon reward at the end)

PvP (you get lots of exp and gold from this method)

Guild dungeons (explains itself)
Reset able quests

Exp Books

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I myself have stopped playing atlantica recently due to the fact that i collected nearly all of the mercenaries except ones that are very expensive to maintain. and waiting for new content to be released in the English version.

Zanpakutou replied at 1:08 pm Aug 18,2009
PvP is pointless unless you follow one of the winning builds. it is heavily imbalanced towards multi targetting mercs and others like swordsmen and lady knight are worthless in comparison. range mercs > mage mercs > melee mercs. it also provides very little exp. 10 minutes for maybe 2 million exp total? i can just spend 5 minutes on knud and get more than that. IDs suck because there is a time restriction on them. GDs don't exist for people beyond lvl 100. resetable quests are only up to lvl 100 and only knud is really worth resetting. exp books are worthless since 100k is less than 0.01% of what you need to level up.

why would you say it's just point and click. of course it is, almost all games are. If you tried to just point and click your way thru a pvp battle you would die so fast tho. If your not thinking about what your doing, it means your not going to get into the game. no wonder you left as soon as they added the stam system. You couldn't sit there like a human bot anymore clicking your life away. why can you just say, the game is not for you, but maybe someone else will like it, is it that hard to believe that people like different things. I'm smart enough to know that there is nothing wrong with atlantica, its just that you dont like the game.

after you said that, i can tell you really dont like mmorpg games, so why even talk about them.

Zanpakutou replied at 1:05 pm Aug 18,2009
cannon and bow types in this game just spam left click. no skill needed. cannons for stun, bow types for just pure damage. their actual abilities for the most part are useless.

please share the other 3d turn based mmorpg games with me. ( i believe you, i just would like to check them out)

and i said it could be the best game ever. many people that play it will agree. (I hate having to point out the fact that the person that replied to me, didn't understand what I said.

I have found everything I want from a game, in atlantica. so to me it is the best. I have played many mmorpg games before i found this one. Now people that play WoW feel the same about there game. Its all about the game play you want. ( I sound out of bent when i reply to blogs. because i only reply if they piss me off. I dont waste my time talking crap about games that others might like.)

Did we hurt your feeling because we said the truth to what Atlantica really is? You seem bent out of shape over it..haha

And one more thing it don't take real smarts to play this game..Its point, click and repeat, and grind like hell,Spend allot of money in the Item mall so that you can be the number one Urber. What a joke..

o and there is nothing wrong with the stamina system. I have been playing this game for a while now, and it has never bugged me. When people make a game, they make it fun. there is not going to be somthing in the game that isn't fair ( there is a reason for everything)

!!!!!!!!!   IF YOU LIKE TURN BASED RPG GAMES, YOU WILL LIKE ATLANTICA ONLINE. BE SURE YOU DON'T LET REVIEWS LIKE THESE, DESIDE WHAT YOU THINK IS FUN, BC IF YOU DO.... YOU COULD MISS OUT ON THE BEST GAME EVER.  !!!!!!!

???? how can you say any of that stuff about one of the best games ever. Think about it dude. lvl 120 to 130. thats only 10 lvls. of course its going to take for ever...... who wants to hit max lvl again so fast. The idea is to make the game last.

What I want to know is.... why are there people like you? that take the time to blog this? Let people play the game and choose for there self if they want to go past 95.

Atlantica is one of a kind. There are no other 3d turn based mmo games. I hope everyone that reads this guys post, reads all the way down to my post. bc i want to let everyone know...... Atlantica is a great game, that takes real smarts to play. Its a game where a lvl 50 can beat a lvl 70 in pvp, if the lvl 50 has a better stratagy. so who cares how fast you lvl when you hit end game. Thats the way all mmo game should be. True mmorpg fans find plenty of stuff to do in there games to have fun. They dont worrie about getting to max in a hurry, and then call it quits.

I was in CB before stamina system and wow i loved that game, it sooo vast then stamina came and i couldnt grind for an hour, it just runs out so quickly then you have to wait for another hour for it to come back? I stayed for a couple days, while i waited for my stamina to come back i crafted. But i couldnt take the waiting any longer.. =[

great game i guess in its own way but wayyy too annoying for the veteran mmo players..

Also, I 4got to add, I'm with AxleRose on this one too. nDoor try to force you to play a certain way and we tried to protest for us to have the right to play any way we want. ironic, instead of letting us grind slowly, they want us to rush through their content and level up faster. Now when they run out, they make everyone grind, trying to force them to slow down.

I feel no sympathy for you newcomers who just ignored us and say we're idiots and shove our opinions away when we were obviously thinking ahead for the company. I order to get more regconition due to their damage reputation of the game, they had to partner up with nDoor.

You guys got what you deserve.

Zanpakutou replied at 9:25 pm Aug 16,2009
the level caps suck. they try to justify it by using it to place limits on bots, but it also turns away a lot of the power players which are crucial in any MMO's economic development. nDoors stopped reading forum comments a long time ago so no one is really able to get through them anymore.

i quit once stamina implamented, than i went back to play as a change of place, 20 battles a day or less while i focus on other mmorpg. all of a sudden, i learn we are not allow to level up and go through the content very slowly and deprive us of our loots and such. waste of my time playing while trying to bear the stamina system.

I was in beta when they added the Stamina to the game..It was a full blown nightmare.Allot of us left because of it..We tried to warn the New Players what was coming after the game went full released..They (New Players) kind a shove us under the matt sort of speak..I don't feel bad for the players..Enjoy the grind like we enjoy our Stamina..Oh and don't for get to bring the wallet if you want to be urber, its going to cost the players..This is one game i wish it did not make it...

Zanpakutou replied at 9:23 pm Aug 16,2009
they improved stamina a bit, but it still sucks. the only reason i still play is because my friends still play and we party nearly all the time. most of the players have stopped caring about stamina and just whine about everything else sadly.
