Warriors of the Three Kingdoms ReviewCategory: Reviews Posted on Nov 12, 2009 Add to Bookmark |

Warriors of the Three Kingdoms is another attempt to make an MMO based on the 3 Kingdoms era in China. This one goes for the action RPG feel which is different from most of the other MMOs. There are a good variety of gameplay options to satisfy PvE and PvP players but if you do not have an excellent internet connection, you will experience problems. Story: N/A - 3 Kingdoms Era, you join a side and go to war. That's pretty much it. Graphics: The graphics are not too bad, but I find that it is still below average. The main problem is that there is no variety. Players who are near your level will wear similar armor. The minor face differences are not noticeable. The enemies often look like recolored versions of the same characters. The skills are only noticeable by the huge trail effects they leave behind. Gameplay: Character creation is very limited. You get a name, 3 faces, and 2 hair styles that look exactly the same. You also pick which nation you want to be part of. This cannot be changed later on so make it count. There are 4 character types each that can use 2 different unique weapons. For the most part, the lower the difficulty is on the weapon, the more practical at is. The high di |

Lost Saga CB ReviewCategory: Reviews Posted on Oct 09, 2009 Add to Bookmark |

Lost Saga is the latest RPG published by OGPlanet. They operate specifically in North America so if you're anywhere else, chances are you won't be able to play this. Fortunately, you're not missing out on much. Lost Saga is based around room matches where players just fight each other. That is all. There's so little to do that I can't even write a full blown review of it. Story: N/A Graphics: Graphics are fairly poor. They look almost exactly like characters from Grand Chase. If you don't know what it looks like, imagine cel shaded disproportionate characters with minimal detail. Skill effects are poor. Character customization is very limited as well. There is very little customization if any. All the stages seem to also have similar layouts with just skin changes. Gameplay: The game starts off as a crappy tutorial. All you get is an "Assassin" class character that lasts for like 10 hours. All you have is a shop and matches to set up with other players. There are a few other characters available but you have to buy them in the game's store. These are Soldier, Iron Knight, and Mage. That is all. There is almost no customization. There are a few co |

Dragon Oath CB ReviewCategory: Reviews Posted on Sep 29, 2009 Add to Bookmark |

Dragon Oath is an MMO published by ChangYou. Before this I have never even heard of them but apparently they're in the works for other MMOs in the US as well. The best way I can describe this is that it is like an updated and improved version of JX2. Although not by much, the little differences make the game feel nearly completely different. The basis for the game itself is similar to JX2, Zhu Xian, and 9Dragons. The key difference is that they don't put any restrictions on joining clans.
Story: N/A - Something about Song Dynasty or something. Go read it on the website Graphics: By today's standards, this is nothing amazing. The character looks are very limited and the only customizability so far is that of your clan's wardrobe. However, each of the clans have a significantly different look which is a plus. Its easy to identify who is what clan and what their general abilities are. Even though this is nice, more customization in general would have been nice. The monsters look fairly different and there isn't much repeat of character models except for mobs that are involved in the special events. There are no repeats for quite some time too. Gameplay: Character creation is very |

Red Cliff Online ReviewCategory: Reviews Posted on Sep 26, 2009 Add to Bookmark |

Red Cliff is another MMO released by Perfect World Entertainment. If you don't recognize this name, they're the ones responsible for Perfect World, Q-World, Ether Saga, and Jade Dynasty/Celestial Destroyer/Zhu Xian Online. Like all of their previous games, Red Cliff is just another repackaging of another one of their game with different character models and enemies. If you've played them before, its kind of the same as any of the others on the list (except for maybe Ether Saga, I haven't played that one). There are some minor differences, but nothing significant. To me, the best I can characterize this is an updated version of Zhu Xian Online. The epic Red Cliff movie of 2008 and 2009 has only made this game look worse as well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GjIV_suXuCw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TZsMDgRhWsg Story: The game is based on the Romance of the Three Kingdoms era specifically the Battle of Red Cliffs (Chi Bi) where the small alliance of Sun Quan and Liu Bei managed to defeat Cao Cao's far superior navy thanks to some luck. However, considering what is possible in the game, it is not based on part of the time line at all. Can someone say cheap name cash in? Graphic |

Warriors Orochi 2 (Musou Orochi: Maou Sairin) ReviewCategory: Reviews Posted on Sep 23, 2009 Add to Bookmark |

Throughout the years, Dynasty Warriors has been hated as being repetitive and button mashing. The difference between Dynasty Warriors and the other series is that Koei does it right. Which other company recently has actually managed to create a good classic beat em up or hack and slash title? I can't think of many good ones that weren't done by Koei and the others that tried to copy it failed (Devil Kings and N3 comes to mind). To date, I believe Warriors Orochi 2 is probably the best beat em up game available and I decided to write this review for it. This review is based on the PS2 version. The 360 version has some pretty prominent bugs at first but I think its all fixed by now. In another week I hope to be able to review Red Cliff for you guys. Seems like a decent game so far but the problem is its cubizone Story: Each of the different factions in the game have their own storyline that has a little difference. However, it all culmulates in the final showdown between True Orochi and you. The title of the Japanese version references the return of Orochi. There are a total of 5 storylines. Shu, Wu, Wei, Samurai, and Orochi. The only story that is different is Orochi's which is a p |

Soul of the Ultimate Nation (SUN) Online ReviewCategory: Reviews Posted on Sep 13, 2009 Add to Bookmark |

Soul of the Ultimate Nation (SUN) Online was a game that I was eager to play a long time ago after I tried Lineage 2. Back then it would have been great, but now it seems very questionable. There was a nice concept behind it and it looks nice, but the actual implementation of the system is very lacking. I found myself having numerous issues with the controls despite having the option of choosing either keyboard or mouse movement. Story: Didn't care. I stopped caring after the village raid or whatever in the beginning. Graphics: For a game that is a few years old, it still looks pretty nice. The characters look nice although they could use more variety. The towns feel a bit plain but once you're out into the later areas, it looks really nice. The only problem is you have to up the gamma settings a bit so it isn't too dark. The annoying part for me was that the game didn't have a built in window mode so you have to use the hidden ctrl + enter or some other combination of keys to set the game to window mode. It got annoying to have to do that every time I played. If you don't do this, you get disconnected if you alt + tab for too long. Gameplay: Initial character creatio |

Front Mission 5: Scars of War ReviewCategory: Reviews Posted on Sep 07, 2009 Add to Bookmark |

Front Mission 5 was the last of the Front Mission series (to date) that sums up all of the Front Mission games. It was never released outside of Japan to my knowledge but there is an English translation patch for the game that is nearly complete. There is a Front Mission shooter coming out for the 360 soon but I don't consider it to be part of the main series like Gunhazard. Front Mission 5 is one of the best turn based RPGs that I have ever played. As for MMOs, I'm still waiting for Nexon to get on with Dungeon Fighter Online.
Story: The story follows the life of Walter who experienced nearly the entire Front Mission history from the first major conflict in the first Front Mission game to the outbreak of the final conflict at the start of Front Mission 3 when MIDAS is stolen. Near the end of the 1st war, Waltar and his friend Randy become pilots for Wanzers (giant robots). Unfortunately an insane Glenn rips out Randy's cockpit and kills him which in turn sets the tone for the rest of the game. The Scars of War refers to the scars Walter and Glenn receive at the beginning of the game. Graphics: For the most part, I would say it is above that of Valkyrie Profile 2 and Final |

Mana Khemia 2: Fall of Alchemy ReviewCategory: Reviews Posted on Sep 03, 2009 Add to Bookmark |

I didn't manage to get far enough in Aion before I got bored of it so no review of it from me. I just gave up on it. Instead I started playing Mana Khemia 2 for the PS2 and since I haven't done any reviews in a while I decided to do this one because its at least a game I'm interested in.
Story: Many years (10-15 at least) have passed since the first Mana Khemia. Alchemy is in decline and the school Al-Revis has converted into a traditional school rather than stay as an elite school of alchemists. Tony and Flay from the first game have become teachers of alchemy in the school. The story itself is divided into 3 parts the first 2 can be played in either order through Raze (not his full name) and Ulrika (I might have mispelled this one). Only after completing the first 2 is the 3rd one available. The first 2 show opposite sides of events occuring at about the same time and the 3rd part is more or less the conclusion where everyone comes together. Graphics: This game is on a PS2 and not much has changed since its predecessors. The 2D character art on 3D backdrops is still something I like more than the standard full 3D view. The skill effects are very nice although the m |

Dungeon Fighter Online CB ReviewCategory: Reviews Posted on Aug 16, 2009 Add to Bookmark |

Nexon has spent a lot of time building the hype for this game. Much of the game is left to the eye of the beholder. Dungeon Fighter Online (DFO) is a traditional side scroller beat em up in MMO form. By now I believe it is around 5 years old but the problem is that each of the other versions of the game has IP bans on countries that are outside that region making it difficult to play with players from other parts of the world. This review was a bit late though. CB ended nearly 2 weeks ago but I haven't had much time. Hopefully I'll get around to Aion CB review some time soon. IF YOU DO NOT LIVE IN THE U.S. OR CANADA YOU MOST LIKELY CANNOT PLAY THE NEXON VERSION. Story: I didn't care about this. Something about special people called Dungeon Fighters. Then after that I stopped reading. Graphics: For an older game, the graphics are done nicely. The characters and enemies are in 2D while the backgrounds are in 3D. Some of the high end skills have very nice effects while the low end skills aren't as impressive. The main problem is the lack of character customization. Character customization only exists t |

5Street (High Street 5) ReviewCategory: Reviews Posted on Jul 21, 2009 Add to Bookmark |

5Street is another dance MMO released by Snail Game a while back. It was released in South East Asia before coming over to the US. Even then its not widely known and definitely not popular. I'm amazed that the US version is still in service because I rarely see anyone on it. Even before I start that, what the hell? There's 4 English versions of the game. The US, Singapore, Malaysia, and Philippines. Apparently they couldn't just do "English" or "SEA". They had to break down each one. No wonder they don't have any players on the US version. With each patch they also add in a bunch of nonsense, but the patches contain large amounts of content and huge changes to the overall game. When they update, they don't screw around.
Story: Your player is recruited by some stalker agent who believes you have the skills as a street dancer/performer. That's it. No other story for the game. Graphics: The graphics of the game is fairly decent. Character customization is very present especially in the initial creation. The problem is after the initial, you can't change it any more. You better make it count. The backgrounds are very bland and simplistic for the most part. T |
